I completed our own bathroom back in June, and we are both delighted with it.
This room was just a back spare bedroom, essentially a useless box room for us. The plan was always to convert the bathroom at the top of the stairs into an office for us both, and this spare room into the main bathroom. That then allowed for a separate free standing bath and walk in shower instead of the shower over bath like the original room.
This was the first room in the house we’d sort of fully designed and made decisions on even prior to moving in, and to be honest the finished article isn’t too far from the original plans. Towel rail location chopped and changed but there wasn’t ever really going to be an ideal spot for it in this room sadly. Position of bath was a nightmare for me to decide, centre of window threw it too far right and close to towel rail, so I settled on “centre of tile” which I was then in turn able to work in with loads of other things, for example floor setting out and the whole wall round the window I was able to make it land on as good as full tiles. It does work, it looks fine but I was really struggling to commit to it being off centre 😭😅
Tiles are all from Tiles and Stone direct in Inverness. The suite is “Faber” from Roper Rhodes, supplied by Wolseley. The bath I got online, very weary of its longevity…but I know a plumber that can replace it if it does start to fail/discolour 👀 I absolutely love the brushed nickel Faber stuff, the only thing Molly had to be be mildly pursuaded on…
I still cannot fathom how much I struggled with the 1200x600 green tiled wall, a very humbling experience I didn’t think I’d get the top row on without calling in a big strong man to come and help me 😫 managed to get it JUST but arms and upper body were like jelly for the rest of the day, very embarrassing 😳
James helped me with the first fix and strip out prior to his summer break, then when he was back helped me with the heavy lifting of the glass and the accessories. Wee Molly helped me lift the bath in 🤣👍🏻
Thank you also to Adam who as always is super patient with me and my insane lighting and switch requests, switches for everything and loads of remote lighting and things on this one so plenty to do on that front 🥴 all the strip lights change colour as do the ceiling lights, unnecessary extravagance but anyone who knows me knows the entire house is controlled by Philips Hue 💡 and I love it. Some pics are when it’s semi finished, some when it’s just been cleaned so floor looks soaked and some just when there is a decent sunset ☀️
It’s a great room to have completed early on in our mini renovation, as it’s so fresh clean and perfect room to relax in when bathing and what not. As I said further up we are both so happy with it, glad we stuck to original design and glad we took the risks on the black bath and tray as it’s something a wee bitty different! There are still a few odds and ends to tie up like painting the facings and silicone round window, but I’ll catch it at some point 🙂 Molly chose accessories for the room and chose to go for a rust colour on the towels/mats, soap and the blind to the in with the brown streaks on the green tile, works so well.
I fully caught up with things last week, I do now have a few more quotes to get out which I’ll try do Sunday or an evening next week. Calendar has filled very fast again just in the last 2 weeks or so maybe one free week in November and a few in December.
It’s been another busy year for us so far which I’m very grateful for, and it’s felt particularly manic for me as we moved in here in April and I have done my usual and gone all guns blazing 🥵 hoping to get a week off in October 🙏🏻
