⚡ JDF ELECTRICAL – RECENT KITCHEN INSTALLATION ⚡
🏡 Planning a new kitchen? Here’s something every homeowner should know!
When it comes to replacing a kitchen, there’s a lot more involved than simply removing the old units and fitting new ones.
A successful kitchen installation relies on good planning, communication and having the right tradespeople carrying out their own specialist work at the correct stages.
Here’s a breakdown of how we approached this recent kitchen project.
🔹 Stage 1 – Electrical Disconnection
Before any kitchen units were removed, I attended the property to safely isolate and disconnect the existing hob, oven and electrical accessories, making the affected wiring safe ahead of the kitchen removal.
🔹 Stage 2 – Kitchen Removal
Once the electrical installation was made safe, the joiner came in to strip out the old kitchen units, leaving the area ready for the first-fix work.
🔹 Stage 3 – Electrical First Fix
With the old kitchen removed, I returned to carry out the electrical first fix, preparing and positioning the wiring for the new kitchen layout, appliances and accessories.
🔹 Stage 4 – Plumbing First Fix
The plumber then attended to carry out the necessary plumbing alterations and prepare the pipework for the new kitchen installation.
🔹 Stage 5 – Kitchen Installation
With the electrical and plumbing first fixes complete, the joiner returned to install the new kitchen units and worktops.
🔹 Stage 6 – Wall Tiling
Once the kitchen units and worktops were fitted, the tiler attended to complete the wall tiling, providing the finished surfaces ready for the final electrical installation.
🔹 Stage 7 – Electrical Second Fix
Finally, I returned to complete the electrical second fix, installing and connecting the new accessories and appliances, followed by the necessary electrical inspection and testing.
✅ WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
One thing I always encourage homeowners to understand is that every trade has its own specialist role in a kitchen renovation.
A joiner specialises in joinery, a plumber in plumbing, and a qualified electrician in electrical installations.
While tradespeople work closely together, electrical work should be carried out by someone with the appropriate electrical competence, not simply treated as another part of fitting kitchen units.
Getting the correct trades involved at the right stages helps prevent unnecessary delays, additional costs, damage to newly fitted kitchens and, most importantly, potential safety issues.
Good workmanship isn’t just about the finished appearance. It’s about making sure everything behind the scenes has been completed correctly too. ⚡
