Time well spent under the stairs! The two old fuse boards were removed and one new consumer unit, with SPD and RCBO's fitted in its place. Also upgraded the meter tails and main earth and installed new main bonding to the water and gas supplies.

So my early start ended up at The Utilita Bowl in Southampton for a NAPIT Expo, giving us an insight and introduction into the latest version of the Wiring Regulations - BS7671, 18th Edition, Amendment 4. Very informative and instructive morning, plus some valuable CPD points and a copy of the regs book.

I'm sure you can see where we got asked to help out a few weeks back. have been tasked with removing asbestos from the former Horsham Fire Station but before they could start they needed some of the remaining circuits safely isolated so they could take down lights and switchgear that were attached to areas with asbestos in them.

As the building hadn't been disturbed it was perfectly safe for us to move round and do our work, but you can see some of the precautions and working practices that Crucial Environmental have to take to keep them safe once they start to work and disturb the dust and fibres.

Due to the size of the site and the different areas that needed isolating, George of Dickson Electrical was on hand to help, with him ensuring the areas were isolated and me at the distribution boards removing the conductors from the breakers.

Recently completed my 5 year refresher course for PASMA, to enable me to safely use scaffold towers - including putting them up, checking them prior to use and actually using them to work on. Whilst it's not something I would use day to day it's handy to have for my commercial work where you need to access equipment at a higher level.

Finally managed to beat the elements to get the garden room finished. The finished room had sockets with USB charging points, downlights inside and in the covered canopy at the front, with Quinetic Wireless switches so the lights can be switched in the garden room or back at the house.
The supply was run in armoured cable from an IP-rated consumer unit next to the meter, with an additional run of armoured Cat5 cable run to boost up the WiFi signal.

If you think I could help you with a similar project please feel free to get in touch.

Friday Board swap - on this occasion a fairly straightforward job combining all 4 of those old units into one modern metal unit with RCBO's for each circuit and Surge Protection. The added benefit of the boards is that they offer Bi-Directional and Double Pole RCBO's, which will be essential in this case as the customer is considering adding Solar and Battery storage.

All enquiries welcome if you're considering a consumer unit upgrade.
