Professional development is something I’ve always believed should never stop.

I’m pleased to have successfully completed the IGEM GL/8 Gas Related Incident Investigation qualification.

This specialist training has strengthened my ability to investigate gas-related incidents methodically, identify root causes, preserve evidence, and produce clear, technically robust reports that stand up to scrutiny. It also reinforces the importance of working to the highest standards of safety, professionalism and industry best practice. (IGEM)

With over 20 years in the gas industry across engineering, leadership and technical management, this qualification adds another layer of expertise that I can offer to clients, insurers, legal professionals and organisations requiring independent technical investigations and expert support.

Whether it’s supporting gas incident investigations, carbon monoxide cases, fumes investigations, technical reporting or providing expert witness services, my focus remains the same: delivering impartial, evidence-based findings with safety at the forefront.

Continuous learning isn’t about collecting certificates—it’s about ensuring every client receives the highest standard of technical knowledge and professional service.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” It’s a phrase we’ve all heard… and for many things, it makes perfect sense.

But when it comes to your boiler, that mindset can be dangerous.

A boiler doesn’t have to stop working to develop a fault. Every year we come across appliances that are still producing heating and hot water but have hidden defects that could lead to gas leaks, carbon monoxide risks, or unsafe operation/situations. Some are more obvious than others.

The photos below are real examples of boilers that looked fine to the homeowner but were anything but safe.

A boiler service is about far more than maintaining efficiency. It’s a thorough safety inspection designed to protect both your home and your family by:

✔️ Checking for gas leaks and signs of unsafe operation
✔️ Testing emissions to ensure the appliance is burning correctly
✔️ Inspecting the flue to make sure harmful gases are safely discharged outside
✔️ Identifying worn or damaged components before they lead to costly breakdowns or dangerous faults
✔️ Giving you confidence that your boiler is operating safely and reliably

Just because your boiler is working doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Don’t wait until it breaks down—or worse. A yearly service provides peace of mind that your boiler is operating safely and efficiently.

If your boiler is due its annual service, or you’re unsure when it was last checked, get in touch with Sussex & Surrey Central Heating Services Ltd. Your safety is always the priority.

🚨 A boiler breakdown that could have been prevented… 🚨

This is what I found during a recent repair. 👇

This condensate trap was completely blocked with debris, preventing the boiler from operating properly and resulting in a breakdown. It’s a common issue that often goes unnoticed until the heating or hot water stops working.

The good news? This is usually preventable.

Regular boiler servicing allows problems like this to be spotted and dealt with before these repairs are needed or leave you without heating when you need it most.

At Sussex & Surrey Central Heating Services LTD, every service includes a thorough inspection and cleaning of key components to help keep your boiler running safely, efficiently, and reliably throughout the year.

✔️ Reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns.
✔️ Improve boiler efficiency.
✔️ Help extend the life of your heating system.
✔️ Enjoy peace of mind, especially during the colder months.

Don’t wait until your boiler lets you down. Get in touch today to book your annual service and keep your heating system in top condition. 🔧🔥

Another busy week transforming this heating system! 🔥

We installed replaced this failed heating system and installed a new unvented hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard, along with a new Worcester boiler in the loft, giving the customer a modern, efficient, and space-saving heating system.

To ensure the system performs at its best for years to come, we also fitted:
✅ Spirotech air separator (SpiroVent) – continuously removes trapped air and microbubbles, helping to eliminate noisy radiators, reduce corrosion, and improve heating efficiency.
✅ Spirotech dirt separator – captures magnetite sludge and debris before it can damage the boiler, pump, and valves, helping to extend the life of the entire system.
✅ Scale reducer – helps protect the boiler and hot water cylinder from limescale build-up, maintaining efficiency and reducing future maintenance.

These additional system protection products might not be the most visible part of an installation, but they’re some of the most important. They help keep your heating system cleaner, more efficient, and more reliable—saving money on repairs and helping your boiler perform at its best.

Sussex & Surrey Central Heating Services always aim to provide the best advice to all our customers along with competitive prices.

Strip clean service on an old boiler.

We have looked after this boiler for years, and it looks as good now as the day it was put in.
