Do I need planning permission for a garden room?

It's probably the question we're asked more than any other.

The good news is that most garden rooms can be built without planning permission, provided they meet the rules under Permitted Development.

One of the biggest things to remember is the 2.5m rule, if your garden room is within 2 metres of your boundary, it will usually need to be no higher than 2.5 metres.

There are some exceptions. Planning permission may still be needed if:
• Your home is listed.
• Your permitted development rights have been removed.
• You live in a conservation area or another protected location.
• Your building exceeds the permitted size or height limits.

Every property is different, which is why we always recommend checking before you build.

With temperatures soaring this week, we're guessing anyone who chose to have air conditioning in their BoxClever cabin is pretty pleased with that decision right now!
(Like the lovely people who opted for a unit in their classroom built earlier this year)
