Why are the spiders in the cellar coated in white blobs???

These are dead spiders that have been colonised by fungus.

Cellars and subfloor voids are ideal environments for this because they're cool, damp, dark and poorly ventilated. Certain entomopathogenic fungi infect spiders, kill them, and then grow over the body. The fungus produces white, cottony/spore-like growth, which is why the spiders end up looking like little white blobs stuck to the masonry.
Interestingly, infected spiders can sometimes die in exposed positions on walls or ceilings, which helps the fungus disperse its spores.

Multiple fungal-covered spiders suggest the cellar has maintained persistently high relative humidity for some time.

They're generally not something I'd be concerned about from a human-health perspective — the fungi involved are specialised toward arthropods.

One of the parts of my job I didn’t expect to love as much as I do… is the people.

I genuinely love what I do. Every property has its own story to tell. When you walk into an empty home—especially one where it’s clear the owners may now be in care or have passed—you can’t help but imagine the life that was lived there. From a young couple starting out, choosing wallpapers and finishes, to raising a family and creating a home full of memories.

The details say so much. Today it was a baby pink bathroom with matching taps, blown glass light fittings, and boldly patterned carpets—full of character and personality. So much more interesting than the endless beige walls and neutral spaces you see everywhere now.
