Unfortunately, sometimes the cheapest job becomes the most expensive 😢

We’ve started work on this flat roof for a customer who has previously paid to have it completed but unfortunately, due to the poor standard of the original installation, they are now having to pay for the roof twice.

As the picture shows, there are numerous issues with the existing roof covering and detailing. Rather than trying to patch somebody else’s work and leave potential problems underneath, we are doing it properly.

👉️ We are stripping the entire roof back to the bare timbers and starting again from scratch, allowing us to inspect the structure and rebuild the roof correctly.

The new roof will be installed using a s Flex single-ply roofing system, with all the perimeter details, upstands and penetrations properly formed and finished.

It’s frustrating for any customer to have to pay twice for the same job, which is why choosing an experienced and reputable roofing contractor in the first place is so important.

So what does that actually mean for our customers?

When choosing a roofing contractor, it shouldn’t just come down to who gives the cheapest quotation.

If 50% or more of your roof is being replaced or refurbished, the work will generally need to comply with current Building Regulations and be notified to Building Control.

This isn’t optional – it’s a LEGAL REQUIREMENT where the regulations apply.

Because Parker Roofing is registered with the NFRC Competent Person Scheme, we are authorised to self-certify qualifying roof refurbishment work as compliant with Building Regulations.

That means on qualifying projects:

• We register the work through the NFRC CPS
• We ensure the roof meets the relevant Building Regulations
• Insulation is upgraded where required
• We self-certify the qualifying roofing work
• The customer receives a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate
• Qualifying notified work is also backed by a 10-year Insurance Backed Guarantee

Being NFRC and CPS registered isn’t simply about having another logo on our vans or here on social media.

It means our business, workmanship and competence are independently assessed and we have to continue meeting the standards required by the scheme.

So when comparing two roofing quotations, make sure you’re comparing like for like.

Ask:

✅️ Will my new roof be registered with Building Regulations?
✅️ Will I receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate?
✅️ Is the contractor authorised to self-certify the work?
✅️ Will I receive a 10-year Insurance Backed Guarantee?

Keeping the Parker Roofing team safe, trained and up to date 👷‍♂️🏠

Recently we took the whole team off the tools for a dedicated Health & Safety and First Aid training day.

Training days like this are important. Roofing is a high-risk trade and there’s nothing more important than making sure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.

The day covered refreshing and updating our knowledge on Health & Safety, working safely on site, emergency procedures and First Aid, making sure everyone understands their responsibilities and knows what to do should an incident occur.

Training isn’t something we believe should simply be a certificate in a folder. Keeping skills and knowledge refreshed helps us maintain high standards across every job we undertake.

Can’t believe the timing as the scaffolding was only removed on Tuesday & it has absolutely thrown it down this morning!

All your lads involved during the last 4 to 5 weeks have been terrific. Naturally they’ve had some hot days to cope with but they’ve worked their socks off and been very polite, friendly, well-behaved and respectful throughout! Despite the obvious “upheaval” it’s been a pleasure having them here so please do pass on our sincere and genuine thanks to them all!

Another chimney completed by Parker Roofing 🏠🔨

This chimney was suffering from porous and badly deteriorating brickwork, allowing water to pe*****te and causing ongoing leaks.

Rather than carrying out temporary repairs to failing brickwork, we carefully dismantled the chimney and completely rebuilt it, giving it a proper long-term solution.

Works included:

✅️ Chimney carefully taken down
✅️ Rebuilt using new brickwork
✅️ New chimney pots installed
✅️ New mushroom ventilation terminal installed to maintain ventilation to the redundant flue
✅️ New flaunching formed to the chimney head
✅️ All brickwork neatly pointed and finished
✅️ Chimney left watertight, ventilated and ready for many more years of service

A proper rebuild rather than continually patching deteriorated, porous brickwork.
