🏆 Two years running!

We’re delighted to share that Refined Landscapes has won a 2026 BALI National Landscape Award in the Domestic Garden Construction £100K–£250K category for our project, The Fire Terrace.

To be recognised by for the second consecutive year in this category is something we’re incredibly proud of.

The judges commented:

“The client is overjoyed with her garden and it gets regular use by family and friends. Quality materials used with excellent workmanship and attention to detail.”

A heartfelt thank you to our entire team and trusted partners. This recognition reflects the care, craftsmanship and dedication that goes into every project, and wouldn’t be possible without the people behind it.

We’re looking forward to celebrating at the awards ceremony and catching up with friends and partners across the industry.

Planted only a couple of months ago, this new-build garden is already starting to settle into itself

Hakonechloa macra is beginning to spill over the limestone terrace, softening the edges, while brighter perennials further back bring small moments of colour through an otherwise restrained, lush green planting palette

Still very young, but already beginning to feel settled and layered, bringing a really immersive quality to the space

A garden designed to sit comfortably alongside the Arts and Crafts character of the house

The material palette takes its cues from the architecture, with red brick, warm-toned stone and gravel helping the garden feel as though it has always belonged to the property, rather than feeling newly imposed

More contemporary elements still have their place. The pergola brings a practical layer of outdoor living to the garden, while its softer, muted finish sits quietly alongside the older architecture rather than competing with it

The planting also draws on more traditional garden styles, with clipped evergreen structure, generous flowering borders and softer perennial planting bringing colour, rhythm and seasonality through the space

Curved lines and layered planting help loosen the more formal framework, creating a garden that feels relaxed and established

A sympathetic approach to the house, but one that still creates a practical, contemporary garden for everyday life

A garden we always enjoy coming back to

From the more structured, outdoor-living-focused terraces below, with an outdoor kitchen and fireplace, to the looser, densely planted garden beyond, with wellness features including a sauna, shower and yoga deck, there’s a visceral change in atmosphere as you move through the space

One we’re still incredibly proud of

A closer look at some of the details from this recently completed garden

Having shared the wider scheme, these images focus more closely on the planting, materials and smaller moments that give the garden its character

Drifts of Hydrangea ‘Annabelle’ and Echinacea soften the clean lines of the paving and the more formal architecture of the house

Beyond, the kitchen garden adds another layer of use and seasonality to the space

In this part, Isaac looks at the back garden and how we balanced family life with spaces for dining, entertaining and relaxing

A raised terrace helps navigate the change in level, while softer planting around the steps and boundaries brings movement and atmosphere to the more practical parts of the garden

A practical family garden, balanced by thoughtful planting that brings softness, structure and a more considered feel to the space

A closer look at some of the quieter details from this recently completed garden

Having shared the wider scheme, these images focus more closely on the planting and the way it begins to soften and inhabit the spaces around the pool

Loose grasses, perennial planting and moments of stronger colour sit amongst evergreen structure, creating layers of texture and movement while helping the larger areas of paving feel more settled within the garden

This garden is a great example of how planting can completely soften a large, relatively square scheme with generous areas of hard landscaping, bringing atmosphere, movement and a much more immersive feeling to the space

There are some lovely moments already, from the Geum moving through the borders to the poppy seedheads and grasses catching the light, but the most exciting part is knowing how much fuller and more enveloping these spaces will become as the planting continues to establish

A few of the smaller moments from a garden we’re very proud of

A recently completed garden where the architecture of the house gave us a strong starting point for the wider design

The layout is deliberately simple and structured, with a long central route drawing you through the garden and a restrained palette of materials helping to give the space a sense of calm and continuity

Around that structure, the planting is much softer. Generous drifts of Hydrangea, grasses and perennials soften the edges of the paving, with clipped evergreen forms giving the scheme enough weight and rhythm to hold everything together

A garden with a clear framework, but plenty of softness around the edges

A slightly different week on site for Refined

With some of the team taking a well-earned break over the school holidays, our director Jacob has had a rare opportunity to get back on the tools alongside Joe, our Head of Operations, helping to break ground on one of our newest projects and keep things moving

Jacob and Joe have worked alongside one another for more than 15 years and have been involved in well over 1,000 landscaping projects together during that time. There’s an understanding that comes with that amount of time working together, and it’s been good to see them back setting out a garden side by side

It also says a lot about the wider team. Having such a broad range of experience and practical skill across the company means people can step in, support one another and keep projects moving when others take some much-needed time away

For Jacob, it’s also a chance to return to the foundations of the business and the part of the work he has always loved most: being outside, building gardens

Whether he’ll make it back to the office is another question!
