A new chapter for this Letchworth home 🏡

This week we submitted applications for planning permission and Heritage Foundation consent for extensions and substantial refurbishment of this detached house.

The proposals will create a five-bedroom family home, with enhanced living spaces opening onto the garden and a refreshed exterior that retains the character of the original house.

The existing and proposed views show how a coordinated approach to extensions, materials and detailing can transform a home.

PLANNING APPROVED | Four New Family Homes in Pirton

We’re delighted to have secured planning permission last week for a development of four new detached family homes in the picturesque Hertfordshire village of Pirton, near Hitchin.

The scheme has been carefully designed to create a small, attractive residential development that complements the character of the village and its surroundings.

Featuring traditional red brickwork, pitched tiled roofs, generous gardens and landscaped surroundings, the four individually designed homes combine traditional architectural character with modern family living.

We’re looking forward to seeing this exciting project take the next step towards becoming a reality!

Planning permission granted this week! 🏡

A fresh look and a better layout for this family home.

Our approved scheme creates a new master bedroom suite, a new entrance hall and staircase, alongside internal alterations to make the home work better for its owners.

Outside, new roof finishes and render bring the elevations together, with a welcoming entrance giving the house a clearer focal point.

The existing photograph and proposed visual show the transformation we’re looking forward to seeing take shape.

Designed in 2008. Approved, but never built.

These animations revisit our proposals for The Wynd in Letchworth Garden City, bringing our original hand-drawn illustrations to life using today’s AI visualisation tools.

Developed between 2006 and 2008 for Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, the scheme brought together 116 apartments, more than 30 small retail units, an anchor supermarket, a play barn and a reconfigured car park.

The drawings show the spaces between the buildings as much as the architecture itself: shopping streets, sheltered passages and a central courtyard where people could meet and spend time.

Following extensive discussions with North Herts planning officers, the scheme secured planning permission. The 2008 financial crisis ultimately stopped it from progressing.

Nearly two decades later, we can explore what might have been.

From bungalow to contemporary family home | Hitchin

A fairly dramatic before and after.

The original bungalow occupied a fantastic site, but made relatively little of it. Our brief was to create a new four-bedroom family home that took much better advantage of the plot, while responding to its established residential setting.

The finished house optimises the south facing frontage to create a secret garden. The house combines buff brickwork with timber cladding, deep overhanging roofs and large areas of glazing. The first-floor accommodation sits beneath the sweeping roof forms, while extensive glazing at ground floor opens the principal living spaces onto the garden.

It’s also satisfying to look back at the original design images and see how closely the completed building follows the concept.

Just submitted! This scheme has just been submitted for planning for four houses in Breachwood Green, replacing the existing cottage.

Two problems shaped the design. Overlooking — resolved through careful positioning and window placement; and parking, which had to meet the required numbers without turning the centre of the village into a car park.

The materials take their cue from what’s already there. The two frontage houses pick up the rhythm and detailing of the Victorian terrace next door.
Pre-application discussions with North Herts District Council went well. Application submitted; now we wait.
