Have you heard about 'Lock snapping'?
Police and Locksmiths certainly have. Among the undesirables, the current trend as a way of getting into your property is a method of forced entry that burglars are using to gain access through your UPVC door within 60 seconds!! Scary but sadly true.
The simple technique being used by intruders is to smash the door handle off and then snap the internal cylinder in two. Secured by Design, the official Police approved scheme addressing security devices, has for some time been working with the British Standards Institute to improve UPVC door security, with specific attention paid to door lock snapping. New standards have been introduced to overcome this problem by using anti-snap locks. The quickest and most cost effective solution is to upgrade basic euro cylinders to security enhanced anti-snap cylinder locks.
The new cylinders have anti-snap cut-outs on both sides of the cylinder so that if undue force is applied to one end of the cylinder it breaks away leaving the locking part of the cylinder secure inside the door doing its job.
Burglars have become familiar with these anti-snap locks and they are proving to be an effective deterrent. Combined with a high security handle and the drawbridge is up!
