For this kitchen in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, the material was used extensively across the island and architectural detailing, allowing its distinctive flowing veining to become part of the room rather than simply a work surface.

A batch of swimming pool tiles going through the workshop.

Here Simon explains some of the work involved before these tiles are ready for installation. Each one is being cut to the required size before a bullnose profile is worked onto the exposed edge, creating a smooth, rounded finish around the pool.

The more interesting part comes at the end of the pool, where the flooring follows a curve rather than a straight line.

That section will be formed from around five individual tiles, each one cut precisely to a template so that when they're installed together, they follow the curve accurately and maintain a consistent bullnose edge throughout.

It's a good example of the work that goes into a detail that will look relatively simple once everything is installed.

A look at the exterior stonework of a Georgian townhouse in Chelsea, London.

For this project, we supplied and installed the porcelain paving, including the terrace, staircase and individual steps leading through the garden.

Porcelain was chosen partly because of how well it performs outdoors. It's highly resistant to moisture and frost, making it particularly well suited to the British winter and the repeated freezing and thawing that exterior surfaces have to cope with.

The challenge here wasn't just laying the main terrace. Every step, riser and change in level had to be carefully measured, cut and finished so the material continues cleanly throughout the space.

For an island of this size, keeping it joint free makes a significant difference to the finished appearance, but it also makes the fabrication and installation considerably more challenging. The templating has to be precise, and there’s very little margin for error once the stone leaves the workshop.

In this case, the finished island was too large to come through the normal entrance to the property. Working with the contractor, we instead brought it through the French windows at the rear, allowing us to keep the entire surface in one piece.

The result is a large, practical family kitchen with the island forming a natural centrepiece to the open plan space.

Another update on this bespoke bathroom vanity unit as it takes shape in the workshop.

We completed the stonework for Anne's bathroom a few years ago, and she's now returned to us to create this new piece specifically for the space.
