We are so lucky to work in well established gardens, often with tree cover and partial shade from the sun. Many of our gardens are lush and green and plants still need pruning. Early starts mean these get done before the heat of the sun hits. Where a plant is showing signs of stress, a bowl of washing up or bath water poured at the end of the day, slowly over the roots, can help to revive it.

As we hit our 5th heat, this is definitely worth doing! I’ve used up to 5 washing up bowls of grey water for the past month, to water all my planters and they are doing well!!!

2 before and after pics showing an untouched border getting its first bit of attention in 7 years! It had grown out by a whopping 8ft and included dead viburnum, buddlea, hydrangea, cornus, 2 roses, lycestria , choisia, variegated holly and euonymus. And a hunched over acer that we’ve anchored into a more upright position. The garden is shaded most of the day but all the plants goes soaking from water butts.
This will take several months to put on shoots and start filling out.

Oh, did I mention a bramble or 2……….. welcome back JoJo!!!!!!

A lovely garden and it gets a pop up pub this Friday! What’s not to like!!

Message from the Marwood Pop Up Pub team...

At the moment, the weather for this Friday is looking good and so we hope to be able to return to the beautiful setting of Marwood Hill Gardens for our monthly pop-up-pub. Join us anytime from 6pm and enjoy the company of friends and neighbours, music from Simon Jones and his jazz band and treat yourself to fish and chips from the Whiddon Fryer.

Please note food can only be purchased with cash this time around so do remember to bring enough with you. We are pleased to share that the Gardens team have given their kind permission for anyone attending the pub to enjoy a walk around the gardens in return for a donation that can be made at the bar.

Don't forget to bring a camping chair to sit on, something warm to wear for later and maybe a torch too, to help you find your way home safely if it is dark.

The opportunity for us to hold a pub in the Gardens doesn't happen too often in our British summers, so, let's pray the weather holds and that you can all join us to make it an evening to remember.

Thank you to Piccolo Plants nursery at the South Molton Plant Fair today. Some great advice and 3 new hardy trailing sedums to sit atop a wall and need very little attention.
And a few pics of planters and shrubs at home.. All be watered by bowls of washing up water from the kitchen!!!!
