Afternoon all! The last few months have been intense, but I hope everyone's getting a good start to the year! I wanted to post this special little project, which was comissioned as a Christmas present. My client had accidentally destroyed the handles on these knives after years of dishwasher abuse, but they were her husband's favourite and they'd had them since they were married. I'd never remade knife handles before, so this was a fun little challenge for me, and my Dremel became my new best friend! πͺ I cut some blanks out of a fairly gnarly slab of olive wood, added carbon pins and a central mosaic pin, and after some initial shaping with the Dremel I epoxied some splits in the grain to keep the finish smooth and watertight. After a lot of fine sanding, these babies were born! I used 14 coats of Tru-Oil to pop the grain and give them a super hard-wearing finish. I loved doing these, and the client's husband was so impressed he bought a new knife bar to display them on! They won't be going near a dishwasher again π Swipe to see a comparison with the other knife they'd like redone! π
