Afternoon all! The last few months have been intense, but I hope everyone's getting a good start to the year! I wanted to post this special little project, which was comissioned as a Christmas present. My client had accidentally destroyed the handles on these knives after years of dishwasher abuse, but they were her husband's favourite and they'd had them since they were married. I'd never remade knife handles before, so this was a fun little challenge for me, and my Dremel became my new best friend! πŸ”ͺ I cut some blanks out of a fairly gnarly slab of olive wood, added carbon pins and a central mosaic pin, and after some initial shaping with the Dremel I epoxied some splits in the grain to keep the finish smooth and watertight. After a lot of fine sanding, these babies were born! I used 14 coats of Tru-Oil to pop the grain and give them a super hard-wearing finish. I loved doing these, and the client's husband was so impressed he bought a new knife bar to display them on! They won't be going near a dishwasher again πŸ˜‚ Swipe to see a comparison with the other knife they'd like redone! πŸ‘‰

This was a really interesting little job repairing a rotten clocktower column on the roof of Admiralty Mews, an 18th century former naval hospital in Deal πŸ₯ The base of the column was beyond repair, so I removed the wood around the central support and completely replaced it, filling and repairing the damage above ready for painting πŸͺš It may not be pretty, but now it's painted it looks just like its neighbours and should last another couple of hundred years! Swipe for a before and after! ➑️

And now for something completely different! 🚐
A friend in Faversham asked me to help them with their van conversion, and never one to shy away from a challenge, I was happy to oblige πŸͺš He'd already started the job, but I installed cladding and a built in a custom media wall with storage, before designing a mini kitchen unit with space for a fridge, cooker and the world's smallest sink! This was definitely a fun one, looking forward to seeing it when it's finally on the road! If you have a bit of wanderlust yourself, or any other unusual carpentry projects to tackle, please send me a message! 😁

Bespoke reclaimed pallet wood kitchen island with breakfast bar 🍳 My lovely clients asked me to replace their built in breakfast bar with a freestanding unit with storage - they wanted something with real visual interest & a lived in feel that highlighted the beauty of the wood. I built a curved ply base unit and clad it in reclaimed pallet wood, added rustic pewter hardware to the door, and to keep costs down I made the top from a reclaimed softwood table. This was a real labour of love (breaking down and prepping endless pallets is slow going!) but it was so worth it & the clients were thrilled 😁 Definitely one of my favourite furniture builds to date! πŸͺš If you're looking for some unique bespoke furniture of your own, please get in touch! ☎️

Reviews are so important when you're running a business, and I love it when I get feedback from my clients! If I've done any work for you, I'd be really grateful if you could leave me a review, either on Facebook or one of my business profiles (links below). Here's a review from my client Sally, whose Georgian Porch I recently restored πŸ™‚
"Nick came recommended by a friend who spoke of his high quality craftsmanship and great attention to detail. He steadily worked through the task, repairing all parts that were salvageable and replacing those which were not with carefully considered mouldings and cornicing. We are delighted with the end result. Thank you Nick."
It's always great to receive positive feedback from my clients - thanks for your kind words Sally 😊

Georgian porch restoration 🏦 Swipe for the before! ➑️
This beautiful Georgian listed building was in need of a bit of a facelift - the wooden porch was in a really sorry state and had completely disintegrated in places, but with a lot of love and some very careful restoration work, I managed to return it to its former glory! It looks stunning now it's been finished, the decorators have done a great job on the paintwork 🎨 There's nothing more satisfying than restoring a little piece of history, and my clients were thrilled with the results. If you've got any rundown woodwork that's in need of repair, contact me for a quote πŸ™‚

Bespoke larch and cedar sunburst pergola with floating roof β˜€οΈ My clients in Birchington wanted a showstopping pergola that would protect them from the rain, so I designed this with an angled floating roof that sits above the main structure, with a sunburst of cedar beams underneath and a floating cedar privacy panel at one end. I used traditional joinery techniques to put the whole thing together without metal fixings - the only bolts in the build secured the cedar to the larch & the roof to the house. Loved this one from start to finish - it's always great when I get to flex my joinery muscles!πŸ’ͺ If you or anyone you know is looking to extend their living space with a pergola or any other outdoor build, please get in touch!

I've been working on some exciting projects this year, but this was a nice little job to kick things off! My clients were using this old oak whiskey barrel as a side table in their kitchen, but it didn't really fit with the curated look in their new build. As I was there measuring for another job (more on that later!) they asked if I could turn it into something a bit more luxe, without losing its rustic charm. A lot of angle grinding, sanding and one repurposed oak tabletop later, this unique breakfast table was born. I finished the piece with UV Protection Oil so it could be used outoors, and it was all done without opening the barrel once... If the smell was anything to go by, there still might have been a dram or two inside! πŸ₯ƒ Swipe for a before πŸ‘‰

During & After - Broadstairs Boutique Hotel 🏨
I spent a few weeks installing wall panelling, skirting boards, doors and trim throughout this lovely Georgian townhouse hotel. This was a fairly large project and the clients wanted a luxe, high end finish, so my attention to detail needed to be pretty spot on 🧐 It's great to see it all decorated now though - it was definitely worth the hard work! Salon furniture for the Queen Vic in Faversham πŸ’‡β€β™€οΈ
I designed and built this freestanding counter with green desktop & countertop and integrated storage for my client Vicki Lord. It's made with distressed scaffold boards with oak inlay at either end & held together with industrial gold angle iron. The tea station is made with the same distressed scaffold boards, and both pieces are finished with green marble handles. Fit for a Queen! πŸ‘‘
I also did Vicki's entire salon refit (photos coming soon). If you require custom furniture or joinery for your retail space, please get in touch! πŸ“±

Rustic bathroom πŸ›€
This is some work I did on my own bathroom - the walls are panelled in distressed reclaimed scaffold boards and more boards were used to create the rustic bath panel. I also built a bath tray with an offcut of live-edge larch - everything is properly sealed and it's been standing for a few years now without any water damage! πŸ’§ Reclaimed scaffold boards are one of my favourite materials to work with; reusing old timber has obvious benefits for the environment, and I love the warm, industrial look that they give a space. If you're looking to give your home a rustic edge with some custom panelling or furniture, drop me a line! ✍️
