⚠️ The Importance of Asbestos Management

Despite asbestos having been banned in the UK in 1999, it remains present in many older buildings and managing it effectively remains a legal responsibility for dutyholders.

Jamie will look at why asbestos management remains so important, more than two decades after the Duty to Manage came into force, and the practical steps organisations should have in place to manage risk and maintain compliance.

🌍 Next Thursday, the EMS team will be at the Herefordshire Means Business Ltd Construction & Trade Showcase at NMITE in Hereford.

As well as exhibiting throughout the day, our Director, Jamie Perkins-Best, will be taking to the stage to talk about a subject that remains as important as ever: asbestos management.

It’s now 27 years since the use of asbestos was fully banned in the UK, and 22 years since the Duty to Manage came fully into force.

Large amounts remain within the fabric of buildings constructed before the ban, which means effective management is still essential for protecting the people who work in, maintain and refurbish them. HSE continues to require dutyholders to identify asbestos-containing materials, assess the risk, maintain an up-to-date asbestos register and management plan, and provide information to anyone who may disturb them.

Jamie will be exploring why asbestos management still matters today, what good management looks like, and some of the key things organisations need to have in place to remain compliant.

This recognition is thoroughly deserved and a brilliant reflection of the passion, commitment and hard work they both bring. We couldn’t be prouder to see them both recognised for their contributions to EMS.
