👋 We're delighted to welcome Jack Rickard to Central Group our new Contracts Manager at the Bridgend branch.

Jack brings a wealth of experience from the construction industry, having spent 12 years working as a plasterer, including six years running his own business. After achieving a First-Class Degree in Project Management from the University of South Wales, he moved into contract management.

One of Jack's proudest achievements was managing the refurbishment of the listed Bryn Sion Church in Aberdare, a challenging project that required careful planning and delivery.

In his new role, Jack will be responsible for delivering projects, monitoring costs, liaising with clients and key project documentation. He's looking forward to managing and supporting on some of our larger projects, while expanding his roofing knowledge and becoming a key part of our dedicated Bridgend team.

📚 Cladding refurbishment at a live school requires careful planning, clear communication and strict control from day one.

🏫 St Peter’s High School Maths Block Refurbishment
📍 Education | 📐 280m² | 🔨 Cladding & Window Refurbishment

Central Group were appointed to refurbish the maths block cladding and windows at St Peter’s High School, improving safety, thermal performance and the overall appearance of an ageing school building.

The existing steel-framed structure was clad with deteriorating asbestos cement panels, with the building also affected by draughting, poor thermal efficiency and ongoing safety concerns.

Central managed and coordinated the refurbishment works on site, including:
⚠️ Asbestos removal
🧱 Replacement cladding installation
🪟 New window installation
🎛️ Composite cladding panels and Trespa cladding system
🛡️ Internal hoarding and temporary protection
⚡️ M&E removals and coordination

🚌 With the school remaining fully operational throughout, delivery had to be carefully planned around day-to-day use of the building.

🔈 This included a strict classroom swap-out programme, noise monitoring and detailed health & safety controls to help protect pupils, staff and visitors while works progressed.

⬜️ The completed refurbishment transformed the appearance and performance of the maths block, improving thermal efficiency, supporting compliance with current regulations and creating a safer, more comfortable learning environment.

🏆 NFRC Health & Safety in Roofing Award – Gold

We’re proud to share that Central has received the NFRC Health & Safety in Roofing Award – Gold! With our Health & Safety Manager, Harry Henderson, deservedly collecting the award.

🐎 Members of our team attended the NFRC Midlands Member Day at Uttoxeter Racecourse yesterday, joining colleagues across the roofing industry for a day of insight, discussion and collaboration.

🦇 The event also marked the launch of the NFRC and The Bat Conservation Trust campaign, designed to help contractors better understand their responsibilities through technical guidance and bespoke learning.

❗️Central is built on the belief that health and safety take full priority. We’ve created a culture where risk planning, awareness and responsibility are built into everything we do.

The award is something we’re very proud of. More importantly, it reflects 40 years of ongoing effort by our dedicated staff whose commitment to safety is evident in everything they do.

🎓 Giving students a glimpse into the world beyond the classroom

Last month, we were delighted to welcome students from Whitecross School to our Head Office for a behind-the-scenes look at life at Central Group and the opportunities available within the construction industry.

Throughout the day, students met teams from across the business, explored different departments, and gained insight into the wide range of careers that contribute to delivering successful projects, many of which aren't always visible from the outside.

One of the highlights was a hands-on session led by Guy Hedley, who demonstrated roofing installation techniques and allowed students to learn more about the practical skills involved in the industry.

For many young people, choosing a future career path can feel overwhelming. That's why opportunities like this are so important. By opening our doors and sharing real experiences, we can help students better understand the variety of routes available to them and the exciting opportunities our industry has to offer.

A huge thank you to the students and teachers from Whitecross School for visiting us. We hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did, and we look forward to welcoming more students in the future.

📸🔙 Behind the Scenes at Central

It’s been a busy few weeks across the business, with plenty happening beyond the projects themselves.

Some recent highlights include:

🦺 Liberty Rowsell and Victoria Singleton from our HR team became Enterprise Advisers for the Marches Careers Hub, helping support careers guidance, employer engagement, and future opportunities for young people across the region. Alongside this, they also recently attended Fire Warden and Awareness training in Hereford as part of our continued focus on workplace safety and development.

🧊 Teams across the business kept operatives supplied with water during the recent heatwave, helping everyone stay safe and hydrated while working on site in the warmer conditions.

🎮 Will and Dylan from our marketing team made the most of the sunshine by capturing completed project photography and drone footage across several sites.

⚽️ Nether Green Girls U10s finished their season in their Central-sponsored kit, coached by our Manchester Contracts Manager, Duane Ellis.

⚽️ Loanhead Ladies Football Team also recently played their final game of the season, sporting their Central-sponsored jackets.

🏉 Members of our Bridgend office enjoyed an evening watching Cardiff Rugby from the Central Group box.

While projects remain at the centre of what we do, it’s always great to see the people, partnerships, and day-to-day moments happening across the wider business too 👏

👋 We’re pleased to welcome Ieuan Jones to Central Group as our new Contracts Manager at the Bridgend branch.

Ieuan brings a broad range of experience across both new build and refurbishment roofing and cladding projects, with a strong background in:
- Pre-construction planning and project delivery
- Budget and cost management
- Health & safety coordination
- Timber frame new builds and internal works
- Carpentry and joinery

He also holds several industry qualifications and certifications, including: NVQ Level 6, SMSTS, IOSH, First Aid, and Scaffolding Inspection.

Before joining Central, Ieuan was involved in delivering a major 15-storey, 47-apartment high-rise accommodation project, managing complex logistics from start to finish within a challenging city-centre environment.

🤝 Delivering roofing works alongside live internal refurbishment requires careful coordination from day one.

🏢 Telelink Offices Over-Roofing Project
📍 Swansea | 🏗️ 3,587m²

Central Group was appointed to deliver a large-scale over-roofing refurbishment for Telelink Offices, a commercial telecommunications facility in Swansea.

The project focused on improving thermal efficiency, weather protection, and long-term roof performance while internal refurbishment works continued on site.

⚠️ The Challenge
- Existing built-up metal roof had reached the end of its serviceable life
- Redundant rooflights created additional safety considerations
- Existing rainwater goods were no longer fit for purpose
- Works needed to be coordinated alongside live internal refurbishment activities

🔨 Our Work
- Installed a new over-roof metal roofing system across the multi-pitched structure
- Retained existing insulation while adding further insulation to improve thermal performance
- Redesigned and upgraded guttering to increase rainwater capacity
- Installed sacrificial safety netting to protect operatives around existing rooflights
- Undertook drone surveys and pre-construction planning to support safe delivery

🚧 Delivery
Works were carefully coordinated alongside ongoing internal refurbishment activities, requiring close collaboration between all project teams throughout the programme.

The over-roof approach allowed works to progress efficiently while reducing waste, minimising disruption, and improving long-term performance without full roof replacement.

✅ The Result
The completed refurbishment delivered a modern, durable over-roof system that improved thermal performance, upgraded rainwater management, and futureproofed the building envelope for long-term use.

🏆 Wishing all finalists the very best at today’s NFRC Roofing Awards!

As the industry celebrates outstanding projects in roofing, it’s an opportunity to reflect on our scheme at Center Parcs, Whinfell Forest. The project was given the NFRC Award and LRWA Award for Best Refurbishment in 2025. It was also runner-up in flat roofing at the International Federation For The Roofing Trade (IFD) Awards.

Delivered in a live leisure environment, the project required careful planning, coordination, and phased delivery to minimise disruption while achieving a high-quality refurbishment outcome.

Recognition like this is always a reflection of the teams involved on the project, from development of the proposal to management of delivery on site.
