This is an older style fuse board we came across on a recent job.
While these boards may still function, they do not offer the level of protection modern homes need today. There is no RCD protection, fault finding is more difficult, and safety features are limited compared to current standards.
Modern consumer units are designed to disconnect power much faster in the event of a fault, helping to reduce the risk of electric shock and fire.
If your fuse board looks similar to this, it does not automatically mean it is dangerous, but it is a good idea to have it checked by a qualified electrician so you know exactly where you stand.
