Before you price up an EV charger, look at how long people already stay on your site.

Ryan from Tellus Power made a point on his stand that's easy to miss. Business size doesn't decide whether charging works for you. Dwell time and footfall do. If visitors already park up for a while, a charger gives them another reason to choose you and spend a little more while they're there.

A simple test: if your average visitor stays long enough for a coffee, a meal or a round of golf, it's worth a conversation.

Most people aren't short on options. They're short on someone they can trust to explain them.

With so many solar panels and installers out there, each promising the best deal, it's no wonder the decision can feel overwhelming. Factor in batteries or other upgrades, and it only gets harder. That's exactly why Clever Energy Midlands exists. We cut through the noise, explain what actually suits your home or business, then point you towards the right system and the right people to install it.

If you're weighing up your options, give us a call.

Staying still isn't an option.

That's why we spent the day at the Solar and Storage Show 2026 at the NEC. We met some great people, caught up with contractors and got a proper look at the new tech on its way. There's a lot more coming.

The big talking point for us was power purchase agreements. It's clear that's where the industry is heading, and it's something our customers will benefit from us understanding early. When we recommend a system, you want to know it's based on where the industry is now, not where it was five years ago.

Two quotes, a grand apart, and the cheaper one looks like the obvious call.

Here's what the numbers don't show you. A couple of years in something fails, you ring the cheaper installer, and there's nothing there. Website gone, number dead. They undercut everyone to win the work, the sums never added up, and now you've got a system that isn't generating and a warranty that's worth nothing.

Before you sign, give it ten minutes on Companies House. How long have they traded, and have the directors folded anything similar?

You're not buying something cheap and second hand. You're buying power generation that should run for 25 years or more.

Have you been put off solar by hearing any horror stories 🤔 there is a better way to search.

16/09/2026

Most people don't rule out solar because of the tech. They rule it out because of a story they heard.

We've lost count of the conversations that start with a neighbour's bad install, a warranty nobody honoured, or a salesperson who wouldn't take no for an answer. Those stories are real, and they're the reason a lot of homeowners quietly park the idea for another year.

Here's the part that gets missed. There’s genuinely brilliant contractors out there. You just need to know how to spot them, and nobody teaches you that, because most people only do this once in their lifetime.

One thing worth checking before you commit: are you completely happy with who you've chosen, or are you just tired of deciding? Once those panels are on the roof and the battery's in, going back isn't simple.

Take your time, do your own checks, and don't be sold to.

One form. Six contractors. Suddenly your phone won't stop.

Comparison sites work for energy tariffs. Solar's different. Your details get passed to five or six contractors, all chasing the same yes, and no two homes are the same anyway, so a generic form tells you nothing about your roof or your usage.

Before you enquire anywhere, ask one question: will my details be shared? We only work with contractors we know personally. Fully accredited, no high pressure selling.

Don't be sold to. Have a conversation instead.

Bring us in early and the build just works better.

Steve Hammond's latest extension in Harborne is a good example. We helped source the right installers at the best quotes, so the renewable side matched the build from day one.

If you're a developer planning an extension or new build, it's worth speccing the renewable side before the walls go up. Designing it in beats bolting it on later, every time.

Big thanks to Steve for trusting us to help.

Three quotes in, and you're no closer to knowing who to trust.

That's the bit nobody warns you about. Finding installers is easy. Working out which one will actually turn up, do the job properly and still answer the phone in two years time is the hard part. Prices you can compare. Reliability you can't, not from a website listing anyway.

Ask who's recommending them, and what happens if it goes wrong. Anyone confident in their work will have a straight answer.

We're not installers, and we don't sell products. We just know the people who do it well across the Midlands and beyond We'll point you at the right ones for your project. Solar, battery storage, EV charging, heating.

Start with a conversation, not a comparison site.

If a solar quote is only good today, it was never a good quote.

That's the part most homeowners don't clock when they first start looking. The pressure isn't a sign of a great deal, it's a sales tactic. Same with the discount that vanishes the moment someone walks out of your kitchen, and the office that rings you every morning for a month afterwards.

We set this up in 2023 for the opposite reason. You speak to a consultant first, you get honest advice about your property and your usage, and we only introduce you to contractors who genuinely suit the job. No deposit chasing, no pitch you didn't ask for.

Hundreds of homeowners later, we still haven't had a single complaint.

So here's a simple rule if you're getting quotes right now. Give yourself 48 hours before you sign anything. A good installer will still be there and their price will still stand. If it won't, you've just learned everything you needed to know.

Thinking about solar and want a straight answer? Drop us a message.
