National Federation of Demolition Contractors

National Federation of Demolition Contractors The National Federation of Demolition Contractors is the voice of the global demolition industry.

The NFDC is more than just a trade association...

It is a body that helps steer a business sector; that provides vital information to its members; and is recognised as the voice of the global demolition industry. The NFDC raises the profile of demolition companies by identifying them as reputable and trustworthy. The rigidly imposed high standards required for admittance to the NFDC are monitore

d on an ongoing basis, ensuring that standards are maintained throughout the duration of membership. All members agree to abide by the Federation rules that encompass an exacting Code of Conduct. The NFDC expects its members to provide a service to clients that meet the highest standards of professional management, workmanship, courtesy and integrity. With the addition of the annual Accredited Site Audit Scheme partnered with CHAS accreditation as a condition of corporate membership, these standards are now monitored and policed to ensure consistently high standards and to provide corporate members with a mark of distinction and quality.

You’ve heard it on site before.

The aching arms. The tired legs. The sore feet at the end of a long shift.

The things that get brushed off — a headache, a shallow breath, a pale face that’s just told to “get on with it.”

But what about the signs that don’t get spoken about?

The persistent tiredness. The coughing that won’t go away. The weakness that keeps returning in the same shoulder.

You notice it. But do you say something?

We look out for our mates because sometimes they won’t notice, and sometimes they won’t speak up.

And if we don’t say it… who will?

In the built environment, around 85% of the workforce are men.

On site, we’re trained to look after safety. We wear PPE, follow systems, and respond quickly when something is visible or immediate. If there’s an injury, there’s action.

But not everything is visible.

What about the weight that builds over time? The tight chest you brush off. The cough you keep meaning to mention. The nights you don’t sleep but don’t talk about.

We’re men in demolition — used to getting on with it. But looking after yourself is part of the job too.

Speaking up isn’t weakness. It’s responsibility for yourself and the people who rely on you.
