💧🔥 WHY DOES MY BOILER PRESSURE KEEP DROPPING?

If you've noticed that your boiler pressure keeps dropping and you're constantly having to top it back up, it's something worth getting checked. 🔧

A boiler losing pressure isn't always a major problem, but it can be a sign that something isn't quite right with your heating system.

Here are some common things to look out for:

1️⃣ A small leak somewhere in the system 💧

Even a small leak from a radiator, valve, pipework or underneath the boiler can cause the pressure to gradually drop.

2️⃣ A problem with the expansion vessel

The expansion vessel helps your heating system deal with changes in pressure as the water heats up and cools down.

If it isn't working correctly, your boiler pressure can become unstable.

3️⃣ Radiators or pipework have been worked on 🔧

If you've recently had a radiator replaced, a heating system repaired or some pipework altered, the pressure may need to be checked afterwards.

4️⃣ The pressure keeps dropping after you've topped it up

If you're regularly having to refill the system, don't simply keep topping it up and ignoring the problem.

🔥🌡️ WHY ARE MY RADIATORS NOT HEATING UP PROPERLY?

With the colder weather on its way, you might have switched your heating back on and noticed that some of your radiators aren't getting as warm as they should. 🥶

There are a few common reasons why this can happen.

Here are some things to look out for:

1️⃣ The radiator is cold at the top 💨

If the top of your radiator is cold but the bottom is warm, there could be air trapped inside the radiator.

This can often be resolved by bleeding the radiator.

2️⃣ The radiator is cold at the bottom 🌡️

If the top of the radiator is warm but the bottom remains cold, this could be a sign of sludge or debris building up inside the heating system.

In some cases, the system may need cleaning or a powerflush.

3️⃣ Only some radiators are getting hot 🔥

If certain radiators are working well while others remain cold, your heating system may need balancing.

Balancing helps make sure hot water is distributed properly around the system.

4️⃣ The radiator stays completely cold 🥶

This could be caused by a number of things, including a thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) that has become stuck or a problem with the heating system itself.

5️⃣ Your radiators are making strange noises 🔊

Gurgling, banging or clicking noises can sometimes indicate that there is air in the system or that something isn't quite right.

☀️🔥 WHY ARE YOUR RADIATORS COMING ON IN THE SUMMER?

It’s 25°C outside, your heating is switched off… so why are your radiators getting warm? 🥵

One common cause is a faulty or sticking motorised valve.

Motorised valves control where the hot water goes within your central heating system. When one starts to fail, it can sometimes allow hot water to flow through your radiators even when your heating is turned off.

You might notice:

🔧 Radiators getting warm when the heating is off
🔥 Heating coming on when it shouldn't
💧 Hot water working but the heating behaving strangely
⚠️ A motorised valve that’s buzzing, clicking or not responding properly

It’s a problem we see regularly, particularly during the summer when the central heating isn't being used.

⚠️ Gas Leak – Do You Know What To Do?

A quick but important reminder for homeowners…

If you ever smell gas in your home, it’s important to act quickly and safely.

🚨 What to do immediately

• Turn off the gas supply at the meter (if it’s safe to do so)
• Open doors and windows to ventilate the property
• Avoid using electrical switches, plugs, or naked flames
• Get everyone out of the property

📞 Call the National Gas Emergency number: 0800 111 999

They are available 24/7 and will attend to make the situation safe.

❗ **Do NOT:**
• Turn lights on or off
• Use mobile phones inside the property
• Try to fix the issue yourself

Once the emergency services have made everything safe, a Gas Safe registered engineer can then carry out any necessary repairs.

It’s something you hopefully never need — but knowing what to do can make a big difference.
