Do you know the life cycle of a carpet beetle?

Carpet beetles might be tiny, but they can cause a surprising amount of damage inside your home.

Their life cycle has four stages:

Egg → Larva → Pupa → Adult Beetle

It’s actually the larval stage that causes the damage. Carpet beetle larvae feed on natural materials including wool, carpets, clothing, feathers, fur and other animal-based fibres.

Adult carpet beetles are often spotted around windows and windowsills, while the larvae tend to stay hidden in darker, undisturbed areas.

If you’re finding unexplained damage to carpets or fabrics, shed larval skins, or small beetles around your windows, carpet beetles could be the cause.

The RS Pest Control team has been busy in Chichester today carrying out bed bug heat treatments.

Our specialist heat treatment equipment raises temperatures throughout the affected areas to levels designed to eliminate bed bugs at every life stage, including eggs, reaching into cracks, furniture and other areas where they can hide.

Bed bugs can be extremely difficult to eradicate with conventional treatments alone, which is why professional heat treatment can be such an effective solution.

If you’re experiencing bed bugs in your home, Airbnb, hotel or commercial property, get in touch with RS Pest Control for advice and treatment options. @

Bird Proofing in Progress

We’re currently on site carrying out bird proofing to prevent birds that have now fledged from returning and nesting in the gap between the dormer soffit and the main house roof.

Now that the young birds have safely left the nest, we can properly proof the area, closing off the access points and helping prevent future nesting and associated problems.

If you’re experiencing problems with birds nesting in or around your property, get in touch with our team.

Before & After – Wasp Nest Removal

One of our RS Pest Control technicians recently attended this property to remove a large wasp nest following successful treatment.

Once we confirmed the treatment had worked and there was no remaining wasp activity, the nest was carefully removed from the roof space, leaving the area clear.

Wasp nests can grow to an impressive size when they’re hidden away in lofts, roof voids and wall cavities — this one was a great example.

If you discover a wasp nest around your home or business, RS Pest Control can help with safe and professional treatment and removal.

A great start at Camberley Heath Golf Course.

The first 20 metres of new safety netting is now up, with around 150 metres to complete in total.

All of the old netting has now been removed and new supporting wire has been fitted. The new netting is also being installed higher than the previous netting, providing improved coverage and a much stronger, more durable installation.

We’ll be continuing throughout this lovely Sunday, making the most of the weather and pushing on with the installation.

Plenty more progress to come — we’ll keep you updated as the job moves forward. Camberley Heath Golf Club

🐝 URGENT HONEYBEE RESCUE AT LONG SUTTON PRIMARY SCHOOL 🐝

RS Pest Control has been called in to assist with an important project being undertaken by Hampshire County Council during the school summer holidays.

As part of essential works at Long Sutton Church of England Primary School, all of the school windows are being replaced for safety reasons. During the project, a large established honeybee colony has been discovered living within the soffit of the building.

With contractors needing to continue the window replacement programme, the bees need to be removed — but rather than destroy the colony, the aim is to remove the honeybees safely and alive, including the queen where possible, so the colony can be relocated and given the best chance of survival. 🐝

There is also an important safety consideration. With the school reopening after the holidays, leaving an active colony within the building could present a risk to pupils, staff and contractors, particularly while the surrounding building work is taking place.

⏱️ The biggest challenge is time.

We were contacted about the situation only a week ago, and there is a very limited window during the school holidays to carry out the removal without disrupting the school or delaying the ongoing works.

This isn’t simply a case of treating an insect nest. Access needs to be carefully planned, the structure opened where necessary, the colony located and removed as intact as possible, and the area left suitable for the building works to continue.

Over the coming days we’ll be sharing more of this project and showing exactly what is involved in safely removing and relocating a honeybee colony from inside a school building.

A challenging job, a tight deadline and potentially thousands of honeybees to safely relocate — exactly the sort of project we enjoy getting involved with.

🐝 More updates to follow as the rescue gets underway.

⛳ Big project underway at Camberley Heath Golf Club!

We’re on site at Camberley Heath Golf Club this week carrying out a full replacement of the existing perimeter safety netting, which helps prevent golf balls from reaching neighbouring properties.

The old netting is being carefully removed before brand-new safety netting is installed throughout the week.

We’re also working alongside DriftWood, a professional tree surgery company based in Farnborough, who are carrying out tree reduction works around the netting. This will provide the necessary clearance for the new installation and help prevent branches from damaging the new netting in the future.

It’s a substantial project involving specialist access equipment and multiple trades working together to get the job completed safely and professionally.

📸 Stay tuned for progress photos and updates throughout the week!
