Next on my catch up of the year.
Cream Porcelain paving and Raj sandstone cobbles transformed this patio into a light, bright area.
To begin with we replaced the old fences with new closeboard panels, concrete posts and gravel boards, then work began on the build.

The garden gently slopes from one side to another so we built 3 terraced areas, one directly off the living room as a sunny seating area by the fence with heavily scented climbing plants growing over. A step down to main space for seating and dining and general entertainment and then down onto the lowest level that picks up from the side path and creates a useful bbq space away from the main seating.
All the level changes were edged with the sandstone cobbles to mark the level changes and to give a detail to the paving areas.

Continuing with the catch up posts from earlier in the year this one involved the re pointing of the patio which was just pretty standard stuff and the re design of the unused and unloved shady bottom of the garden.
Paving had been laid, very badly and a thin layer of gravel had been spread over a membrane. The whole lot needed taking up and re laying to create usable pathways to the sheds, a section of the wall was taken down to provide access and after the tree canopies were lifted the area was planted up with species that thrive in dappled shade and an acidic soil.

It seems that my posts since early this year have been going to my personal page it's time I did something about it. So I'll be going back over the last few months and putting a few pictures up starting with a job completed in Cuffley.

Finished out Phase 1 of the Cuffley project on Friday.

A slight change of design and size of the back patio using 600x900 Kandla Grey sandstone rather than the random pattern of the old brown paving. Which was only lain on sand! Shocking workmanship.
The brief for the front was to create a "grand entrance".
Astro turf slopes and a Photinia removed to make room for widened steps using the same paving, new wall and inset brick lights on a dust 'til dawn sensor.
I'm back early next year to build an Indian inspired back garden so maybe a rill and some exotic planting. If the Cuffley climate allows!

A few work in progress shots.
The back patio is almost there and the front. . .well on the bright side the electrics go in tomorrow so then the building can begin. It looks worse than it is, honest.

Day 3 of the latest job.Site cleared, most of the materials in and dry layout approved by the client. So far, so good.

Just finished planting up the borders of the recently completed build.

The planting goes from the dappled shade of the Birch where Hostas, Bergenias and and a variety of ferns are the main stars, moving up to a slightly more Japanese style including Hamamellis, Viburnums davidii and plicatum 'Tormentosa', Skimmias and an Acer.
Punctuated with Miscanthus, Panicum and Verbena bonariensis the border finishes with a Fatsia japonica to disguise the log store.
There are bulbs amongst the shrubs and spaces left for the clients to put in their own favourites.
What a difference a few plants make.
