Hello again from us!

We’re Back!

It’s been a whirlwind start to the year for us, quite literally! Between battling storms and keeping up with all your enquiries, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes. Now, we’re excited to reconnect and share what we've been up to.

Here's a recent before and after photo of a lovely slate job which we've recently completed for a now very happy customer, who was a pleasure to work with.

This particular roof had been leaking in multiple areas for some time, so we knew it would be a challenge, and one which we were happy to take on.

The before photo is a roof in desperate need of attention throughout.

The after photo is a well thought out and planned, problem free, new roof.
Stripped back to the bare rafters, we got to work with insulation, correct ventilation and top quality products to create a problem free, modernised but keeping with aesthetic new roof. Freshly painted and treated new timber facia and new guttering throughout.
It seemed a real shame to not paint the existing timber dormers while the scaffold was up so we took care of this too, to create a very satisfying finish.

To all of our existing and repeat customers / recommendations etc, as said at the beginning, we are working on restructuring to always be providing a better service and we will be with you very shortly. 🔨

We're nearly there, ready to wrap things up for the year and exchange our boots for slippers! 👏🏼

Here's a small but tricky one we finished today, as we knew the customer wanted to have ready, this side of Christmas.

The request was "the bigger the window the better"

We calculated weight / structure / added support to accommodate etc etc... Then got to work.

This is the result. A big, custom framed roof window, finished in a custom lead surround.

Once the plasterer had finished, with just some simple painting to do now, it has completely transformed a dull room into a huge, fully insulated view of the sky.

Always listening exactly to customers requirements, we're always ready to plan the rest 🔨

A nice little job to end the week in the winter sunshine -

We were approached by a local builder who had built this extension, including dorma windows.

Between himself and his client, they had discussed different options to finish... Render / cladding etc... But decided to go for lead.

We did also suggest / throw into options that we could slate hang them, which would also provide a beautiful finish, but lead was the final decision, and one which we were happy with.

Music to our in-house lead experts ears!

2 dormas fully leaded and oiled to provide a traditional and very aesthetically pleasing finish, leaving the builder, client and ourselves very happy with the finish.

Another job well done, and as approved fitters, we'll be back on the same roof next week to fit 5 x velux windows into the existing slate roof.

We take pride in every job we do, with transparency, consistency and fluid communication to achieve exactly what is required.

Please feel feel to contact us for any of your roofing requirements. From slipped tiles, to gutter maintenance, to full re-roof projects, we've got you covered 🔨

Satisfied customers = Satisfied us.
This is a small repair job we carried out today -

The customer has had the same roof leak for 8 years, with 3 separate scaffolds up and various companies "repairing the problem" (Unsuccessfully)
We were confident in our ability to get this resolved once and for all.

The GRP dormer was showing signs of deterioration where the tiles met the abutment.

We stripped the tiles out around the problematic area to investigate, finding previous repair attempts and poor workmanship.

Firstly we reinforced weakening areas of the GRP with new, solid GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) repair product.

We then ensured all tiles were cut correctly to allow correct water run off, and cemented back into place.

Job done? No.

As we know from experience, the point of water ingress is often not the point where the leak is occurring, internally.

We stripped back tiles which revealed signs of water marks further up the roof, which we tracked back to 1 single tile with a broken water channel. This would be impossible to spot to the untrained eye and once we removed this tile, it was clear that water had been seeping through slowly for years.

Success! Tile replaced and problem solved!

We pride ourselves on our keen eye for detail and thinking outside of the box to ensure we eliminate all possibilities.

Appreciated feedback Friday from 1 of many customers since 'the storms'!

We are doing our very best to work through every appointment, and can only apologise to customers we may have had to reschedule.

It has been an extremely busy period, where at times, we have had to prioritise.

We do appreciate your understanding on this and will be ramping things up next week to accommodate all.

We hope you all have a great weekend 🔨

We do love a natural slate roof!

Here's one we've wrapped up in Bedford, just in time for the torrential rain.

Firstly, we spoke to the client about different options which we could replace the 100 year old slate roof with, and were very pleased when they decided they wanted to go for new, natural slate, to keep with the original aesthetic.

The team got to work, and here's what we did...

●Roof stripped back to original rafters.
●Rafters cut out and replaced, to accommodate 3 x velux roof windows, which we installed.
●New lead valleys installed.
●Over facia vents installed, including eaves support trays, to ensure a well ventilated roof.
●New breathable felt installed.
●New treated roof battens installed.
●4 x clay pepper pot chimney cowls installed.
●Chimney re-pointed.
●Chimneys re-leaded.
●Bonding gutters installed, to ensure a seamless and watertight bond between this roof and the adjoining neighbours roof.
●Entire roof re-slated, using high quality natural slate.
●All original ridge tiles reused, including the finial ridge tile at the front of the property, to finish off the original look of the roof.

The end result - A beautiful, new slate roof, leaving us very satisfied and our client (a tradesman of 40+ years himself) very pleased with the finish.

Please feel free to contact us with any roof related issues 🔨

We had a busy month in August with bigger projects ongoing and to follow!
Here's a couple of smaller projects recently completed...

Firstly, a converted flat which had an old asbestos roof.
We take health and safety very seriously at Rural Roofing Restoration, so the first step was to submit notice to the HSE of planned work, as required.
We then got to work on carefully stripping off all the old asbestos roof sheets, in compliance with regulations.
We also stripped back the adjoining roof tiles / felt and batten.
Upon inspection, we found that the two rafters closest to the wall were showing signs of rot. We treated these with the appropriate restorer but to ensure structural integrity, we also added two extra rafters to guarantee no future problems.
We then added 8 new rafters to the asbestos section, to accommodate the extra weight of the new roof tiles to be fitted, in addition to fully insulating the roof space, all to bring the building up to regulation.
Once all this structural and building compliance was done, the team re-tiled, leaded and cemented everything back in place, to achieve a solid, modernised and problem free roof.

Secondly, an old lead window bay, which had splits in the original lead, causing water ingress and underlying wood rot. We re-boarded, including new central wood roll installed to accommodate fresh, new lead, carefully dressed into place and oiled for longevity by our professional lead working team.

Please feel free to contact us for any of your roof related issues, from small repairs to large re-roof projects, we've got you covered 🔨

🔨✨ Last week, we had a team working on a relatively new house built in 1999. Surprisingly, the mortar had eroded badly, likely due to a poor mix of sand and cement. With thanks to our friends at GI Scaffolding, we got a lovely scaffold down a very tight alley to access those tricky spots!

Here's what we did:

Stripped out all the cement from the verges and ridge, carefully.
Removed the old undercloak.
Laid new undercloak bedded on a strong mix of cement and sharp sand on the verges.
Re-laid the tiles and beautifully pointed the verges.
Installed a dry ridge system to improve ventilation, including a vented ridge attached to a flue pipe in the loft.
Cleared out all the gutters.
Made sure our site was mess-free daily.

🚀 What a journey it was to find the perfect tiles, but it was absolutely worth it! 🌟
This long outhouse now looks stunning with its new clay pan tiles. We opted for new ridge tiles since it was tough to find enough matching ones. The finish turned out amazing! Huge thanks to Jo for choosing us again. We can't wait to see what project she has for us next! 🙌🏽✨

🚨 Roof Renovation Update! 🚨

We recently tackled a challenging project where finding the right tiles seemed almost impossible. But giving up isn't in our vocabulary! 🛠️ After tirelessly scouring eBay for a large number of very old tiles, we finally struck gold. It took a 6+ hour round trip, but every mile was worth it. 🛣️

Stay tuned for the final reveal - the roof looks AMAZING! 🌟

🛠️ We recently returned to a charming village property where we re-roofed an old outhouse about a year ago. This time, we were back for some routine roof maintenance, clearing and realigning gutters. 🌧️🏡

Sadly, we learned that since our last visit, the homeowner's husband has passed away. To show our respects during this difficult time, we didn't charge for this visit.

Our hearts go out to her. RIP Graham💐

🚧 At one of our latest jobs, we accidentally broke a manhole cover. Accidents happen! 🚧

Given the charming, old-style village surroundings, we didn't want to replace it with a modern cover. Instead, we scoured eBay for a perfect size match - not an easy task! After some diligent searching, we found a match: a nice, new (100-year-old) manhole cover restored to its rightful place. 🕰️✨

Of course, we didn't charge for this. Accidents happen; it's how you handle them that counts. 💪
