I’ve missed harvesting my own food so much 🥹

Considering many of these plants were dug up, moved and completely replanted over the last few weeks, I’m pretty pleased to be harvesting anything at all!

Not pictured is all the herbs, spring onions and lettuce I’ve been picking regularly too☺️

Have you been harvesting anything lately?🌱👇

I don’t know if you can tell, but every surface is super dusty because of the chicks 🙈

I think it’s them kicking up dust from scratting around in their bedding haha. Another couple of weeks and hopefully the run will be built so they can go outside! I’m going to have a right dusting job on my hands 😂

I’m keeping an eye out for a second hand log burner in time for Autumn, to attach where the flue already is. I can just imagine pottering around in here all cosy with a fire going one day 🥹

What do you think? A bit of paint makes all the difference!

I gave in to temptation and pulled up a few garlic yesterday to see how they were progressing 🧄

Bulbs are forming and starting to size up well but they’re not ready for harvesting just yet.

It’s always a balancing act between harvesting early so my tomatoes have root space to grow (I grow mine together) and letting them put on that little bit more growth. Looking at these, I think a few more weeks will make all the difference.

I usually plant mine in October but I didn’t get round to it till December, which has definitely delayed things a little bit ☺️

Now the challenge is resisting the urge to pull up any more! 😂

Have you harvested your garlic yet, or are you still waiting for the leaves to die back?

Do we think they’ll survive?? 😂😅

Probably not is my guess but I figured I’ll use the tops in cooking either way!

I’ve done my research and apparently if the bulbs are small (mine are), you manage to keep a lot of the roots attached and you have cooler weather when doing it, shallots are pretty resilient and should bounce back!

I’ve had to replant closer together than I’d normally like as it’s a smaller space, but that’s ok. It just means they might not grow as big (I’ll be happy with anything to be honest ha)

I’ll keep my fingers crossed 🤞

Definitely going to dedicate a big space to chives in the new garden 💜

They’re just so beautiful this time of year. Chives are the herb we eat the most and the flowers are lovely in posies, or turned into vibrant chive vinegar for salads!

The chives at the allotment were there when we got it and already full of couch grass, so we’ve always just left them for decoration.

Aren’t they pretty? 🥹

It might not seem like much, but after years of failures this feels like a gardening win worth celebrating ☺️

Physalis (cape gooseberries) are one of my favourite fruits and I enjoy growing them from seed every year. This year is the first year none of my seeds germinated, and coincidentally was the first year I successfully overwintered a plant!

Meant to be 🥹

I’m hoping for earlier fruiting than normal🤞

I’ll definitely be doing exactly the same this winter and also saving another batch of seeds just in case.

Thank you to for your help. It’s because of your encouragement and experience that I tried one last time!

If you’re growing a hardneck garlic variety (vs softneck) you need to keep on top of removing the scapes (flower stalks) before they flower! This can help increase bulb size 🧄

I picked my first bunch yesterday and we had them for dinner last night in a creamy mushroom pappardelle pasta with truffle oil 🤤 When raw they can be quite punchy but once cooked they’re like a milder garlic.

This time I had to chop the lower bit of the stems off as they’d gone hard 😬 I left them a bit too long and they were close to flowering.

Will you be trying your garlic scapes this year?! 🧄

I’ve recently promised a few people on here a chick update, so here you go! 🥹🫶

I can’t believe how quick their feathers come in. I feel like they’ve changed a lot this last week!

We’ve moved them to the conservatory in the new house and they seem a lot happier, as we added a second tent for them to spread out in now they’re bigger. A few more weeks and we can look at transitioning them outside ☺️

They all have different personalities now, some are still a little skittish while others come right up to you and will happily sit on your shoulder. I find the roosters the friendliest!
