Boats are fiddly. Nothing is square and no spirit levels allowed (well, they're allowed, just pointless).

In order to get a perfect fit we will often template a space to ensue that we can get everything ready offsite so that fitting is as smooth and hassle free for you as possible.

This engine bay was a good challenge. We managed to tidy it up and add some storage, while making sure that full access to the engine was retained.

Share your projects and challenges in the comments, what have you found the most difficult or interesting aspect of working on your boat?

A little collection of bedroom storage from previous builds.
Always satisfying finding a home for storage where there wasn’t one before.

New engine room flooring and storage steps, making better use of the space around the engine while keeping things safer and giving the engine some extra protection too.

When we're not working on boats you may find us working in a house.

This project shows our professional design and high quality production in a glorious built in bedroom wardrobe.

The units are birch ply, beautiful and durable, and the doors and decors are valchromat which is a solid coloured MDF product from Portugal.

Everything is finished in 2pac PU spray so you know it is going to last and the pull down clothes rail and spacious undermount Blum drawers make storage a doddle.

Boat bathrooms don’t have to feel like a compromise.
We don’t get to build around a proper bathtub all that often, but when we do, it’s a treat. This one came together beautifully with the tiled surround and timber detailing.
There’s something very satisfying about fitting a full sized bath into a boat and still ending up with a bathroom that feels spacious and calm.

Choosing the timber might genuinely be one of the best parts of building furniture.
Different timbers bring completely different grains, colours and character, and the finish you choose can change things again. These two dinettes are a nice example of how similar pieces can end up looking and feeling completely different.

Of course, having that much choice does mean spending an unreasonable amount of time admiring grain and debating between two pieces of timber that everyone else insists look identical. Terrible hardship...

Storage on a boat is rarely as simple as putting a cupboard against a wall, particularly around the bow where angles change, space narrows and access still needs to work properly.
For this boat, we built bespoke storage around the bow doors, following the shape of the space rather than fighting against it. It meant an area that could easily have been lost became useful storage, without compromising the entrance or making an already small area feel crowded.
It’s a good example of why designing furniture specifically for a boat makes such a difference. Curves, angles and odd little gaps don’t necessarily have to be problems. With a bit of thought and some careful design, they can become some of the most useful parts of the boat.

It’s Friday, so let’s talk about the important stuff. W**e storage. 🍷

Living on a boat means making very sensible use of every available bit of space.
Like, for example, turning the kitchen floor into a w**e cellar.
Yes. We actually built a w**e cellar under a narrowboat kitchen, complete with its own hatch. Because apparently a w**e rack simply wasn’t enough.

For those of us not quite ready to dedicate part of the boat to an underground drinking establishment, we also make magnetic w**e holders. Slightly less dramatic. Still very useful.
