Why Do Drains Need Descaling? Scale can gradually build up inside drainage pipework, restricting flow and increasing the risk of blockages.

At Sutton House, a National Trust site, our engineer carried out planned maintenance to descale four urinals. The work included removing and cleaning the bottle traps before mechanically cleaning the connecting pipework via the access below.

Our team attended Parsifal House with a vacuum tanker and High Pressure Water Jetting (HPJW) unit to carry out specialist drainage maintenance.

The works included clearing obstructions, removing standing water, silt and debris, and jetting the downstream pipework to restore flow. Once complete, a CCTV survey was carried out to inspect the drainage system and identify any further issues, helping to keep the network operating efficiently and prevent future problems.

Meet Jack Gumble, one of our Contracts Managers at First Choice Drainage Solutions.

Jack joined the business in 2014 as a Drainage Engineer before progressing into a Supervisor role and, later, into Contracts Management. His hands-on experience on site, combined with his knowledge of our operations, enables him to support both clients and colleagues across a wide range of projects.

Our team recently attended The Hub by Premier Inn, Kings Cross, following reports of recurring toilet blockages.

After carrying out a detailed investigation, including CCTV inspection of the pipework, we identified a build-up of scale within the system. Over time, this was causing toilet paper to catch and accumulate, leading to repeated blockages.

Following our findings, the customer approved the recommended works and our team returned to complete a full descale of the affected pipework. The system was left clean, clear, and free flowing, helping to reduce the risk of future issues.

Using CCTV surveys and targeted maintenance allows us to identify the cause of drainage problems and provide the right solution.
