Update
They wild camped overnight at Hairy Ness and the following morning, in beautiful weather, walked to Coldingham, then over the moors to a campsite at Drone Hill. This site was a former RAF base and radar station, constructed in 1939 and used during WWII. Here they had the use of a washing machine and dryer. Now, after hand washing clothes for over a month, Mum was in her element, washing and drying all their clothes, they became nudists for an hour or so. Dad said it reminded him of a coca cola advert from many years ago. From here they had a long walk into Cockburnspath and continued onto the Nuclear power station at Torness point and cement works at Barney Hill. From here they walked into Dunbar for the night and encountered a solar eclipse. Dad said it was blindingly good. They paid for a shower at the local leisure centre and wild camped at the edge of Wallace Head Bay, near Winterfield Golf Club, what a beautiful area.

After a good nights sleep in Belford, they set off early. The way today joined the historic St Cuthberts path near Fenwick and St Cuthberts cave. From here, the route brought them to Holy Island sands and the Lindisfarne causeway. The island is cut off twice a day by the tide, pilgrims and this includes Mum and Dad make the 3 1/2 mile crossing on bare foot, following the vertical poles, indicating the safest place to cross. The crossing must only be attempted on a receding tide, however many cars still get stuck in the tidal water, attempting to cross outside of the safe times... Mum found accommodation for them, not camping as it is not allowed on the island, for TWO nights. Mum's highlights were seeing a seal, collecting St Cuthberts beads hidden in the sand on the beach and visiting Lindisfarne Castle, however Dad's was sleeping. The island is very different at night, when the tide is in and the daily tourists have gone, it's errialy quiet.
