🔧 Does your boiler pressure keep dropping?
Don’t ignore it—especially with colder weather on the way.
Your boiler pressure will usually sit between 1 and 1.5 bar when the system is cold. If it regularly drops below 1 bar or you keep needing to top it up, there may be a problem that needs investigating.
Common causes include:
💧 A small leak from a radiator or pipe
🔧 A faulty expansion vessel
🚿 A leaking pressure relief valve
🔥 Radiators recently being bled
🏠 A hidden leak beneath the floor
Before calling an engineer, check around your radiators and visible pipes for damp patches, rust, staining or small drips. You can also look outside for water dripping from the boiler’s copper discharge pipe.
Although topping up the pressure may get your heating running again, regularly doing this is not a permanent fix.
If the pressure drops quickly, reaches zero, the boiler won’t fire up or you notice water leaking, switch it off and contact a Gas Safe registered engineer.
