Two weeks ago I built and installed this cabinetry and shelving unit in a beautifully built garden room. I returned today to fit the doors and door handles after the decorator had finished adding his touches.

The client has gone for a striking and bold pink, although not to my taste I do think it looks awesome.

This will be the last piece of fitted furniture for the as I now move on and choosen a different direction on my career path.

Thanks for all the support from my customers/clients. I’ve had a fantastic time designing and installing some fantastic storage solutions for you all.

This year has seen a notable reduction in the volume of work for my business. As a result of this quieter period, I have reflected on the best way forward for both myself and N Herbert Carpentry.

𝙏𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨
I have decided to accept a full-time position with the Army Reserves for the next two years. During this commitment, my availability for business projects will be significantly reduced. I will, however, remain open to taking on small projects, provided my schedule allows, in order to maintain the continuity of my business operations.

A busy couple of days for the I was asked to board out the area around the new Velux window which replaced a small roof light. All that work was completed by the roofing company.

I framed the area and applied plasterboard, ready to be skimmed.

Second day was replacing the old loft hatch and fitting a new Fakro loft hatch with ladder, to provide easier access.

Whilst I replaced the loft hatch, my good friend Jim carried out the plaster work on the Velux and then around the loft hatch.

A first for the installing acoustic panels in this bedroom.

A nice straightforward job, and an instant change to the decor and feel of the room.

First fix carpentry is one of the best parts of being a carpenter. You get to start the creation and build on the process and you start to see how a room changes as you add materials.

A great two days work in this renovation.

Day 1 - The stairs needed to be shored up as the original suspended floor was rotten and has been removed, damp proofed and filled with concrete ready for insulation and underfloor heating. However the stair strings and newel posts were floating, so I’ve secured them to the concrete with bolts secured with resin and added a floor plate to then build from. The stud work wall is built in preparation for a downstairs 🚾. We also fixed and added new blocks to the treads and risers that had dropped out over the years. Stairs now safe and secure.

Day 2 - a new chipboard floor has been laid for a shower room, I then built the stud work walls, door way and also added the shower niche ready for when it’s tiled.

I look forward to seeing this renovation progress and wish the owners a happy wedding day on Saturday. Have a wonderful day and great honeymoon. 🍾🥂

It’s been a tough 7 months, work has been extremely quiet. I’ve not known it to be this quiet since I started out on my own, and that has been a major concern for my business.

However, I feel a corner has been turned and work is starting to come in again.

This last week it was great to be back on the tools and working on some storage cupboards and shelving for a lovely family close to my home location, so a very short commute around the road each morning.

I followed the customers sketch and brief for the storage cupboards to create a storage solution bespoke to the families needs and the available space. The radiator was removed prior to starting and capped off. The window was sacrificed to allow for the storage.

All designed around shoes storage, and a place for the children’s toys to be stored away when not being used.

The second half of the job was adding some shelving above the Tv and between the existing bookcases either side.

All finished ready for painting. Which the customer has completed the first few coats today and kindly sent me the photo.
