Can everyone in the house hear when you've switched the bathroom fan on? 😂

Older extractor fans can become noisy over time, but the fan itself isn't always the only thing worth considering.

Poor installation, unsuitable ducting or a fan that isn't right for the job can all affect performance.

Modern options include quieter extractor fans, timer-controlled models and humidity-sensing fans that automatically operate when moisture levels increase.

So if you've been putting up with that rattling bathroom fan for years...

You don't necessarily have to. 😅

Keep wiping mould away... only for it to come back again? 👀

The problem might not just be the mould itself.

Poor ventilation allows moisture from showers and baths to hang around, creating exactly the sort of damp environment mould loves.

A correctly sized and installed extractor fan can help remove that moisture before it settles around your bathroom.

And if you've already got a fan but you're still struggling with condensation, don't automatically assume you just need a bigger one.

The fan, ducting route, airflow and how it's controlled all matter.

Sometimes the problem isn't having an extractor fan — it's having one that isn't extracting effectively.

Bathroom still full of steam long after your shower? 🚿

That little extractor fan on the wall has quite an important job to do.

A properly installed fan helps remove moisture from the room, which can help reduce:

💧 Condensation
🦠 Damp & mould
🎨 Peeling paint
⬛ Blackened grout and sealant
👃 That damp, musty smell

If your fan is noisy, barely pulling any air or simply isn't working, it might be time to have it checked or upgraded.

There are plenty of options available now too, including quieter fans and humidity-controlled models that automatically kick in when moisture levels rise.
