Today the garden got a 'soft tidy'... the kind of gentle tidy which unless you'd seen me do it you probably wouldn't realise it was done. And that's what I love about this time of year. The slow small jobs like trimming wayward geraniums or boisterous big lupin stems whilst still keeping the structure and natural cycle of plants going to seed as they settle into a new season and provide shelter and food for birds and insects.

Creating beauty from decay and imperfection. We are gathering and drying material now for use in projects over the autumn and winter. For gardeners there is some melancholy at the end of the growing season but styling and repurposing dried and brittle plants is very therapeutic.

Aeonium appreciation post. I do love our ever growing collection of aeoniums and succulents but I'll be honest with all the attention recently on the intensity of watering the flowery lovelies who want to shrivel up and die in the midst of a drought these gorgeous guys have been overlooked. And there they are, just quietly doing their own stunning thing. No damns given to the seemingling never ending dry conditions. So that tells me we need more of them and to give them more love (as if an excuse was needed) 😍

We have just returned from a mini break in the beautiful lakelands of Co Fermanagh. We stayed at one of our fav little dog friendly accomodations Rossclare Lodge Denise Magill which is a short drive from Enniskillen. Situated on a quiet country road where you can walk to the shores of the Lough it has all you need for a relaxing stay. Denise and Jim are keen gardeners too and I love their eclectically planted, wildlife friendly garden and super productive kitchen growing space too.
