Variety is the spice of life

Although we do supply an awful lot of kitchen worktops, they are rarely the same. Different materials, different requirements, different kitchens and different looks.

The one thing that never changes is the care we take to get things right, and the feeling that you get when we finish. Pure joy and excitement. The icing on the cake turns your collection of carcasses and cupboard doors into a kitchen! The room of dreams and happiness.

If you would like to talk about your project and future happiness, then please drop me a DM or email me at [email protected] quoting: something positive!

Or let's grab a coffee and answer your questions. Let's Go! ✨ πŸ’›

Worktops Without Worry! Peace of mind - Guaranteed.

For as long as I can remember I have always tried my best at whatever I was doing. What I was doing was irrelevant, the aim was the same.

Whether I was designing a luxury marble bathroom for a new penthouse or sweeping the floor, I would do it the best way possible.

This is reflected in all that we also do at O Stone UK. We constantly look at every aspect and look to improve it. From helping client choose the right stone, design and fabrication, through installation and aftercare practices.

A lot of our work can look repetitive, especially on the bigger projects, and complacency is a big risk in these cases. When we constantly look for improvements, this helps prevent this creeping in. And as the saying goes, "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." Things are always changing.

So when we take on your project, we will guarantee you peace of mind. Because we care. We've been through everything to insure everything goes smoothly. You can spend your time more wisely worrying about the rest of the list!

STONE SECRETS #27 - Why Repairs Are a Normal Part of Natural Stone

Natural stone isn't manufactured.

And that's exactly why we love it.

But working with a material created by nature means accepting that it can contain fissures, veins, tiny voids and areas of weakness.

During cutting and machining, occasionally a piece can chip or even crack.

And that's perfectly normal.

The stone may have been repaired before we've even seen it.

Something many people don't realise is that repair and reinforcement can begin long before a slab reaches our workshop.

Certain marbles are reinforced with mesh and resin during slab production. Resin fills natural fissures and voids, helping strengthen the stone before it's polished and transported around the world.

So that beautiful slab you select may already contain expertly filled and repaired areas.

Fabrication continues the process

Then we start cutting it.

Sink cut-outs, mitres, edge profiles and intricate shapes can introduce stresses into a material that already contains natural weaknesses.

Occasionally something chips. A fissure may open. Sometimes a piece can break.

The important thing isn't that it happened. It's what happens next.

A skilled stonemason can resin, reinforce, fill, polish and repair these areas so they become part of the finished piece.

That's craftsmanship, not failure.

Perfect doesn't mean untouched

We're taking something nature created over millions of years and turning it into a precisely fabricated kitchen, bathroom or architectural feature.

Working with the material is part of the process.

And sometimes that includes repairing it.

THE SECRET

🟑 Natural stone can contain fissures and weaknesses.

🟑 Chips, cracks and repairs can be a normal part of fabrication.

🟑 A professional repair isn't something to fear.

It's part of the skill of working with natural stone.

Things you shouldn't need - My problem solving chair!

I have a chair next to my desk, or a thrown as some people call it. It is my problem solving chair.

If I have a problem to solve, or any of our team, and need inspiration, just pop in the chair and relax. The mind clears and the solution appears.

You, as a person buying a stone worktop, should not need a chair like this. You don't need to be worrying about the quality of the product, the time it will be fitted, the warranty and aftercare offered by the material supplier and fabricator. All this should be taken care off with my chair long before reaching your project.

If you don't have a magical chair like this one, then come to us for your worktops. Save you the hassle. Speak soon! ✨ πŸ’›

Optional Extras - The Finishing Touch!

Kitchen worktops are a big part of what we do. We could almost manufacture and install one while being blindfolded! (Note to HSE - figuratively speaking of course, like we'd be that stupid to try.... πŸ€”)

But we do lots of other things that compliment the kitchen. This dresser work surface is a prime example. Totally finishes off the piece of furniture. Elevates it to a sophisticated design with class. If this were in your kitchen and it didn't make your chest puff out an extra inch or two, then you probably like tomato ketchup on your roast dinner!

If you are looking to add inches to your chest and love a great roast as it comes, then let's talk this week. Get the creative juices flowing! ✨ πŸ’›

Tension! - Why Drainer Grooves don't do exactly what it says on the tin!

Every now and then I still get complaints that a customers drainer grooves aren't 'working'. The truth is they are doing exactly what they are designed to do, it's just not what the name suggest.

The surface tension of the water, which is increased when it is in a curved channel, holds the water in place pretty well. This prevents the water from running down the groove once the volume of water drops to a certain level.

But what the grooves are actually there for is to prevent your clean washing up walking itself across the worktop by breaking the seal created. When you put a freshly washed up bowl onto a smooth surface, the warm bowl heats the air trapped inside it making it expand. This lifts the bowl slightly and turns it into a hovercraft. Off it goes with a mind of its own.

The grooves break this seal and allow the warm expanded air to escape. This keeps the bowl in exactly the position to placed it. Bowl saved, job done!

You even see this in a bathroom on a vertical wall. It isn't until you wipe it with a squeegee after a shower that you realise just how much water is left hanging on the wall. All by the magic of surface tension.

And in both cases, when the water dries it will leave behind a deposit of minerals. Limescale! To avoid this build up, just make sure you keep it as dry as you can.

In a bathroom this can be a bit of a faff. But beautiful things take some looking after. My wife told me this. So for the 60 seconds it takes, the pay off makes it more than worth it.

After so many years in the stone industry, you learn a lot. If you have any questions or curiosities, give us a shout. ✨ πŸ’›
