☀️Looking after your trees during a heatwave🌳

The hot weather doesn't just affect us, it affects our trees too.

Young and newly planted trees are the most vulnerable during long dry spells. Giving them a deep watering once or twice a week is much more effective than watering little and often, as it encourages stronger root growth. A layer of mulch around the base of the tree can also help keep moisture in the soil, just be sure to leave a gap around the trunk.

It's also best to avoid unnecessary pruning during a heatwave. Trees rely on their canopy to provide shade and reduce water loss, so removing healthy foliage can add extra stress.

Healthy trees don't just survive the heat, they help us cope with it too. A mature tree can make the area beneath it up to 25°C cooler than nearby hard surfaces through shade and natural cooling, making gardens more comfortable while also benefiting wildlife and improving air quality.

If you're unsure how your trees are coping with the hot weather, we're always happy to offer advice!

🌳 Did you know healthy trees can sometimes drop branches in hot weather?

It doesn’t always mean there’s something wrong with the tree. During long spells of hot, dry weather, it can happen without much warning.

Have a read and let us know what you think.

If you’re worried about a tree on your property, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help. 🌳🍁
