This is what happens when there's no airflow between the building and the ledger joist. 👆

Pulled this one off a job recently. Timber bolted tight to the wall, no spacer, no flashing, nowhere for water to go. It just sits wet for months — especially with our west coast weather — and turns to mush.

That little air gap behind the ledger is everything. It lets the timber dry out and stops it rotting from the inside out. Skip it and this is what you're left with a few years down the line.

If your deck is bolted tight to the house, worth a check. Happy to take a look before winter.

If we keep getting these jobs we’ll eventually get one of them right :-/

Piles of Walther Strong & Co waltherstrongandco decktape on this one as usual.
Still a bit more framing to be complete before the boards go down :-)
Been working between Stevenston, Greenock and Fairlie this week. No wonder the VanDolorian needed new boots!

Las thing on a Friday!!!… tyre upgrades … they were like a formula 1 pit team!! Minus the formula 1 car and the pit.
These tyres make the wheels look tiny :-/

Another day another lesson. Don’t have glass balustrade systems fitted to deck frames that aren’t engineered to accommodate it! This deck hasn’t been the best but has been completelly condemned way before time sure to this “upgrade” full removal and replacement incoming.
Sometimes it’s best for contractors to advise correctly and not just do the job for the sake of it…..
