I was touched…..not in THAT way, I’m hastened to add….😉😂😂

Actually, what it’s about, is Dad leaves notes for his Children to find while he’s working away….. allegedly….😏

😂😂it genuinely is, and it’s super cute, their Children were an absolute delight, and a fantastic ’last job of the day’ job👌

Cheers Mrs H, it was fab to meet you all👌👍

Nice variation with a ‘bird guard’ type of job today.

A ‘Dove cote’ style flue terminal isn’t a regular occurrence, and this was my first that required some form of guard to be fabricated to keep Jackdaws out, who had been regularly nesting each year. Of which the most recent required clearing out of the flue.

Once the nest was cleared, and the CCTV camera passed up to prove clear, a mesh guard was created by hand from an 8’ x 4’ sheet of 1” x 1” square ‘holes’ made of 1.8mm, 316 grade stainless steel.

It was then offered into place, fettled, dressed and then secured.

This will last maaaaany years, preventing wildlife getting in👌🛠️🎩🧹

I received a call from a Customer with a bit of an issue…..

The upper air control, female thread section had failed on the door of their log burner.

Normally, a new door would be suggested, at a cost of close to £300 with VAT & delivery all added.

I’m not ‘normal’, so was able to carry out a ‘repair’ to enable the stove to be used for many more years.
Saving the Customer a healthy amount of £’s.

It’s not just about shoving a brush up a flue.
I’m good at fixing stuff too🎩🧹🛠️

📣 ALL LOG / MULTIFUEL & OPEN FIRE USERS 📣

So, 🙄🙄 now we’re getting close to Autumn / winter, the usual suspects in the world of journalism - Daily Express, Mirror, Daily Mail etc will be demonising the burning of solid fuel….

🧐 Here’s the balance to their misinformation and lazy journalism -

You will only be fined for burning the wrong fuel on the wrong appliance in 🚨SMOKE CONTROL🚨areas.
This has always been the case, nothing has changed in years.

The only thing likely to change is the extension of smoke control areas, and as it stands, the only smoke control area around these parts, is shown in blue on the map - a part of Portsmouth.

🚨IN SMOKE CONTROL AREAS 🚨- If you have a DEFRA ‘exempt’ appliance, you can burn split seasoned timber with a moisture content less than 20%, or smokeless ‘coal’ on a multifuel appliance.

🚨IN SMOKE CONTROL AREAS🚨- If you have a traditional open fire, you should ONLY burn smokeless ‘coal’.

👌 For good quality logs from a reliable supplier, I can recommend F.James log supplier. I’ve been using Freddy a couple of years now, and have nothing but good things to say about his reliability, and product quality.

So, burn the correct fuel for the solid fuel appliance you have, and all will be well. uct quality.

Couple of enjoyable sweeps today at a regular Customer of mine - Derek, of Potts Pottery - which included the sweep of his log burner in his pottery workshop.

Derek offers ‘wheel throwing’ taster sessions at his workshop giving you the chance to make a small functional ceramic object.

Not only is his workshop a great place to be in, but spending time in Dereks company is a real treat.
It’s absolutely something I’ll be giving a go once the busy sweep season has passed👌

How about this for a comical surprise this morning….?!😂😂😂

I pull up outside a Customers house, where two Ladies are chatting, one with a Jack Russell.
As soon as I open my drivers door to say ‘hello’ to the Jack Russell, in he jumps up into the cab!
A brilliant start to the day!
