🚨 THIS is why choosing the right tradesperson matters. 🚨

Yesterday I attended a job for a customer who, quite frankly, had been badly let down.

Whenever I come across work like this, it makes me want to go above and beyond even more — because people put a huge amount of trust into tradespeople, often alongside a significant amount of money.

Unfortunately, once I started inspecting and working on the roof, the list of problems kept growing:

❌ Roofing battens not properly meeting or supported by the rafters
❌ PVC fascia barely pinned onto roofing batten
❌ Uneven guttering — with sections not even connected properly
❌ Downpipes being held in place with cable ties
❌ No eaves support trays, allowing water to run behind the guttering
❌ Further issues uncovered as the work progressed

Some of these problems weren’t just poor workmanship — some were potentially dangerous.

Several of the issues only became apparent after I had originally quoted the job.

Rather than ignoring them, I documented everything with photographs, kept the customer informed throughout the day and explained exactly what I was finding and what needed to be done.

By the end of the day we had:

✅ Fitted new eaves support trays
✅ Replaced and corrected battens where required so they were properly supported on the rafters
✅ Installed new timber behind the PVC fascia with appropriate fixings
✅ Renewed guttering, brackets and associated fittings
✅ Carried out lead flashing repairs
✅ Corrected the additional defects discovered along the way

Once the work was complete, the customer received a full summary along with photographs of the work carried out.

For me, that transparency is incredibly important. If I’m working on your property, I want you to understand exactly what I’ve found, what I’ve repaired and what you’re paying for.

Last night my customer sent me this message:

“Thanks for doing the work at short notice, you don’t know how much of a relief it is knowing that it’s properly watertight for the winter ahead.”

Recent Roof Maintenance Completed 🏠

Another job recently completed by Summit Empire Group LTD.

This property required a mixture of essential roof and exterior maintenance, including:

🔨 Re-bedding loose ridge tiles to ensure they were secure and properly fixed.

🌿 Moss removal from the roof, carefully removing the build-up to improve the appearance and help prevent further issues.

🏡 Renewal of the fascia around the property, giving the exterior a fresh, clean finish while replacing the old, worn sections of timber behind the pvc boards.

Full Fascia & Soffit Renovation – Gloucester 🏠

Another full fascia and soffit renovation completed in Gloucester by Summit Empire Group LTD.

We don’t believe in simply covering up problems and making them look good from the outside. If we find rotten or damaged timber, we deal with it properly.

For this property, any old rotten timber was carefully cut out and replaced with new sound timber before installing the new fascia and soffit.

And the work clearly spoke for itself — we were then asked by the neighbouring property to renew the fascia at the front of their house too! 👌

Chimney Restoration – From Damaged to Rebuilt 🧱🏠

This chimney started as a call-out to investigate an ongoing problem with seagulls nesting on top of the chimney, something that had been happening for several years.

We initially planned to:
🔨 Re-flaunch the damaged chimney
🪺 Remove the old vacant nest
🛡️ Install suitable protection to prevent the seagulls returning
🎨 Paint the existing render to give the chimney a new lease of life

However, once we started preparing the chimney, it became clear that the render was far more damaged than first thought. The decision was made to remove it completely — and this uncovered further deterioration to the brickwork underneath.

Rather than simply covering the problem back up, we addressed the underlying issues properly.

✅ Removed the damaged render
✅ Dressed and re-bedded the top two courses of brickwork
✅ Repointed the entire chimney
✅ Improved the overall structural integrity
✅ Improved the appearance of the chimney
✅ Installed protection to help prevent further nesting

The result is a chimney that is not only looking considerably better, but has also had the underlying brickwork properly repaired rather than simply disguising the damage.

This is a great example of why a thorough inspection is important. What initially looked like a straightforward re-flaunching and maintenance job uncovered much more once the existing render was removed.

Another successful flat roofing project completed in Rodborough, Stroud. 👌

This property had two flat roofs that had reached the end of their lifespan.

The roof at the front of the property was originally finished in felt. Following one of our free, transparent drone surveys, we identified that the roof had failed and was allowing water ingress. We replaced it with a high-performance EPDM rubber roofing system, providing a far more durable, long-lasting solution, complete with neatly finished lead details.

The customer also had a second flat roof at the rear of the property that had also failed. We were able to replace both roofs in the same day, leaving the customer with two reliable, weatherproof roofing systems built to last.
