How today ended.
Main bathroom βœ”οΈ
Skirtings to paint only, but that will be done when all 3 rooms are done.
Also started on the downstairs WC today βœ”οΈ
Full rip out, and floor tiles nearly done.
Very productive day!

What it started as vs what it looks like now. Another day on it and we'll be done, and can then move onto the downstairs WC followed by the ensuite. Working around the owners living there at the same time, so one at a time is how its working best here πŸ‘Œ

I've removed everything (including the old wall tiles), repaired areas requiring it, tanked the walls around the bath area for maximum protection, fitted new spotlights and extractor fan (the latter with some qualified electrician assistance!) and painted throughout. I have then installed the new bath, toilet, sink, mirror, wall panelling, and tiled the floor.

Coming along nicely πŸ˜ƒ

🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Sunday shift with a view!

I am across the border in beautiful Wales today, helping some of our best friends (and our kids' amazing godparents) with their home renovation.

With the real boss at home sleeping between nightshifts, the junior crew have stepped up. Theu're showing what a true family business is all about β€οΈπŸ’™

Imogen and Austin, my little powerhouses! Safety gear on and getting stuck right in. Breaks mandatory, to admire the Welsh hills after getting their hands dirty.

Teaching them young that teamwork and hard graft make the dream work. Back to it πŸ’ͺ

Just a few things to do to finish, but this one has been a pleasure. More work was involved than originally anticipated, but with early communication, this was sorted without issue and without delay.

What’s left to do:
* Sealing of the newly laid patio slabs to protect them from the elements.
* Infill the bricks for the new front steps.
* Laying the final slabs on the brand-new front step.

Will post more photos when it's all done βœ”οΈ

Booking into November now so if you have any projects in the pipeline, do get in touch for a free, no obligation quote soon. Qualified bricklayer and experienced builder.
* brickwork - incl garden walls, raised
planters, porch builds etc etc.
* patios
* fencing
* home extensions
* everything else!

Out with the old, rotting timber decking and in with a stunning, multi-tiered natural stone patio. I've been hard at work this week transforming this garden space, and I'm really pleased with how it's looking.

My customer and her family ripped up the old decking and loaded it into a skip before I arrived to save some time and money.

The product spotlight on this job are Kandla grey riven natural sandstone slabs ✨
A lot of people have asked me before what makes Riven Sandstone different from other types of paving. Basically, if you love a classic, organic look, this is the stone for you.
The "Riven" part means the stone is split along its natural layers rather than cut by a machine which leaves a really nice, undulating surface with unique clefts and ridges. No two slabs are identical. Instead of uniform, crisp machine lines, these slabs have hand-dressed edges which create a softer, more traditional finish.

With that being said, because it's a natural product, the thickness varies from slab to slab. You can’t just lay these flat on a thin layer of sand!
Achieving a completely level patio with varying stone thicknesses is more challenging, and requires more precision. I lay every single slab on a full, wet mortar bed with a polymer slurry primer for a rock-solid bond.
To keep it level across the entire area, I bridge my spirit levels across the joints which ensures the edges meet well to prevent trip hazards, but at the same time, letting the natural, rugged character of the stone shine through the middle. By adding in the custom brick-built retaining steps (which will earn themselves a clean up at the end!), this structure is built to look stunning and last a lifetime.

As always, a like and comment and share goes a long way. I've been very lax on the Facebook engagement recently (1. Because I've been unwell and 2. Because I've been so busy!) so your engagement really is appreciated.

This is the new roof I fitted to the build I just raised the height of.
Zoom in to see the lead work more close up.
Although most is not visible without being up on the roof, the satisfaction is huge in knowing this work will last for many many years to come.

Paparazzi got me again! (ie. The wife). No rest for the wicked.

On this job, I'm raising the height of this brick built lean-to, and putting a new EPDM roof on, complete with new timbers and boards, fascias and gutters etc. New door and doorframe to be fitted also, with lintels above.

I was supposed to be reducing the chimney stacks too and capping them but....
Note to self.... don't try to do this from tower scaffold. It doesn't go high enough!
I always try to save my customers money where I can, but this one was an attempt too far.

Anybody know a good local scaffolding company who can help?

Today in a few pictures. Nipping back to pop some white silicone round the frame tomorrow (client is painting it all white) but otherwise, another job all done and dusted πŸ˜ƒ

Love. My. Job.

Hate. This. Horrible. Cold. I've. Got!

From a door, to a window, all in a days work!

When your customer doesn’t need a rear garage door anymore, you get creative! This was a returning client of mine who asked me to cut down their existing door and repurpose it into a window. While the frame could do with some tlc and won’t last forever, they are absolutely thrilled with the outcome and the extra wall space inside.
I’m particularly chuffed with how the brick match turned out. Managed to get it to perfection, complete with a lovely little soldier course detail on the top row.
