We finished up this job last week, creating a sunken patio area where the client can enjoy more a private spot in her garden where it feels like your sat amongst the garden. Excited to see how it looks next spring once it’s planted up and the edges of the retaining wall are soften up with planting.

We also installed a new patio area using up some of the old existing pavers, a shaded gravelled area and finally a large wildlife pond which we will come back soon to gravel around, plant up and potientally put in some seating around it making use of the retaining walls to go in.

We finished up this project today replacing some old steps, retaining walls and relaying some of the pavers to make this garden a space that can be enjoyed again.

We had a brilliant project on this week, terracing a sloped section of unused and hard to access garden to create a useable space that will attract more wildlife to the garden. After having a discussion with the client I drew up a design to show how the space could be used.

We dug out a large sloped section of lawn by hand as access with a digger wasn’t possible to bring it level ready for the wildlife pond. Then utilizing the retaining wall we made a seating area and installed wires to grow climbers up. Brought in some logs from a tree we felled locally to stack beneath the seat and act as hiding place for the wildlife that will visit the pond in future.

It was perfect placement for a pond as it gets plenty of sun and isn’t surrounded by deciduous trees that will drop there leaves into it. The pond itself once the water has settled and chlorine has evaporated (as rain water is like finding gold at the moment) will be planted up with a mixture native pond plug plants:

- Purple Loosestrife.
- Water Forget-me-not.
- Water mint.
- Marsh Marigolds.
- Brooklime.
- Lesser Spearwort.
- Yellow Flag Irises.
- Yellow Loosestrife
- Oxygenating Hornwort so theirs no need for a pump or filter.

All of these will attract and house different types of wildlife and we have intentionally created the largest margin at a depth of 30cm as this is where 90% of pond life lives in ponds.

We also created a small rustic pond tucked away in the corner for the clients little girl as we had to move her micro pond to join up the existing path to this area, we left it ready for her to fill up with treasures that she had in the previous one.

We installed metal edging and used matching gravel to the existing paths to keep it consistent.

Thank you so much for Charlie and Owen who was helping this week for his work experience and to the lovely clients for being so accommodating. I really look forward to coming back in a couple of months to do some more work and see the pond more established.

Finished up this sleeper retaining wall last week, the clients wanted a like for like replacement of the old untreated oak sleepers that had come to end of their days using treated softwood sleepers. They were really pleased with the result.

This week we’ve had a really nice project rejuvenating this garden. We first took up all the old tired gravel and turf, removed stone edging that was failing, removed unwanted shrubs that were taking up a lot of space in the borders and the old Hazel hurdles.

We then brought in fresh gravel in the back and front, mortared in stepping stones and reinforced the existing paths, put down new w**d membrane, established new and extended the borders using metal edging, brought in fresh soil, installed new hurdles and a new trellis on the house. It’s now ready to be planted up by the clients.

Finished off a brilliant planting job this week for 2 lovely clients. We established a new shape to the borders, installed edging, thoroughly cleared them out, rejuvenated the soil with plenty of fresh compost and planted up the back, front and side of the house.

The garden was thoughtful designed by Steph from SJ Flowers and Landscaping, if you need any garden design work doing I would highly recommend her she is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to plants and creating stunning designs. A big thank you to her!

A hedge planting job recently completed in Stroud, we coppiced all the Hazel and Holly to encourage thicker regrowth that will come through at a similar rate to the new mixed native hedging and let in more light to help it establish. We built up the bottom corner with a mixture of minced up brash and soil from the garden to bring it up to appropriate level. Hopefully I can return in the next 5 - 7 years to come in and lay it all.
