We’re having a bit of a clear out…would anyone like a collection of SPAB magazines? These date from between 2011 and 2024. They would need to be collected from our office near Kinross, preferably within the next week or two.

Today’s site visit took us to The Hill House in Helensburgh for inspection and mortar sampling as part of its ongoing conservation. A fascinating opportunity to investigate the original materials of one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s most celebrated buildings 🏛️🔬

The internal fit-out is almost complete, although it'll take us a few weeks to get everything unpacked, organised and fully settled in. We're looking forward to creating a dedicated workspace that reflects the nature of our work, with improved facilities for client meetings, training seminars and workshops, and the examination and analysis of traditional building materials.

We'll be sharing more over the coming weeks, including a look inside, once everything is in place.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this year's Scottish Design Awards Conservation category

We're delighted that Frew Conservation provided specialist advice on the stone masonry, mortars and/or harling elements of four of the five shortlisted projects, including the Gold Award-winning John O'Groats Mill and Silver Award-winning Saddell Castle, together with Northern Meeting Park and Teviot Row House.

It's encouraging to see traditional building skills and conservation expertise recognised through projects that help safeguard Scotland's historic built environment for the future.
