Throwback to St John’s Primary School, Barrhead.

Working on behalf of East Renfrewshire Council, we transformed existing office and storage space into a new £1.8m Early Years Centre, with the works carefully phased around the live school environment.

The completed centre provides bright, spacious playrooms, quiet areas and dedicated outdoor learning spaces, creating a modern environment for early learning and childcare in the Barrhead community.

World Mental Health Day takes place on 10 October, providing an opportunity to highlight the importance of mental health and wellbeing across our industry.

At Fleming, we’re proud to support the Lighthouse Charity, which provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to people working in construction and their families.

Looking after our people means making sure they know where to turn when they need support - both on and off site.

We’re getting closer to completion at Scaraway Nursery in Milton, Glasgow. 🏗️

The £6.7 million project, delivered on behalf of Glasgow City Council and hub West Scotland, will provide a purpose-built nursery for 95 children alongside a new community facility for North United Communities (NUC).

With construction progressing towards the final stages, it’s great to see the project taking shape and the new space getting closer to welcoming children and the local community.

This week is Scotland’s Climate Week - a chance to highlight the action being taken across the country and consider what more we can all do to support the journey towards net zero.

For the construction industry, that means looking at the choices we make every day. From the materials we use and how we design buildings, to managing waste and reducing energy use on site, there are opportunities to reduce the environmental impact of the work we do.

At Fleming, we’re continuing to consider how we can make more sustainable choices across our projects and operations.

More than 30 years ago, Scott McLelland started his apprenticeship with Fleming. Today, he’s a Supervisor and is helping the next generation of apprentices find their feet in the industry.

From learning his trade in the workshop to seeing how Fleming has grown and evolved over the years, Scott shares what he’s learned along the way, what’s kept him at Fleming for more than three decades and his advice for anyone starting an apprenticeship today.

Project complete at Colinton Mains Parish Church in Edinburgh. ✅

We’re pleased to have now completed the refurbishment and upgrade works, including a new worship area, improvements to the existing church and upgrades to the building’s facilities.

A project involving a wide range of works, specialist trades and different finishes, all coming together to complete the transformation of the building.

Great to see this one finished and ready for use by the congregation and wider community.

For more than 30 years, Fleming has supported the next generation of construction professionals through apprenticeships.

Scott McLelland started his journey with us as an apprentice in the early 1990s and is now a supervisor. Today, we're continuing to provide that same opportunity to a new generation, with apprentices at different stages of their careers.

With apprentices making up 15% of our trade workforce, we're proud to keep supporting young people as they take their first steps into the industry.

And with another apprentice joining us this year, the story continues. 👏

Project update at Baltic Street Adventure Playground in Dalmarnock, Glasgow, for client Clyde Gateway.

The timber kit and roof trusses are now in place, marking another key stage in the construction of the new building. Next up, the team will be working towards getting the building wind and watertight, followed by the external cladding, roof sheeting and internal fit-out.
