Some of the team recently travelled to the isle of Eriskay for a site visit, a small island in the outer Hebrides with an interesting history and culture, and notably home to the wild yet docile, native Eriskay Ponies.

A site visit is an important first step in any project but in this case also an exciting chance to meet these friendly locals!

We received an exciting visit from the Vestre AS Van last week to learn more about their street furniture products.

Matt from Vestre talked us through their products, projects and customisation options, whilst we product-tested some very nice chairs by having a sit-down with a coffee in St. Andrews Square outside the office!

Thank you to Matt and Vestre for a fun and informative CPD!

We asked our studio: as Landscape Architects, what’s one thing you want people to know?

Here’s one answer.

If you work in landscape or design, what’s one thing you wish people knew? 🌱

We asked erz team member Jenny to share one of her favourite design details from an erz project - Jenny’s pick: The benches at Parkhead Hub.

erz worked with Hoskins Architects Architects to design the inner courtyard and outdoor spaces around Parkhead Hub, through a holistic approach to healthcare design combining primary care, mental health, addiction services, homelessness support and community wellbeing in one location.

A new public plaza marks the entrance to the hub and is a valuable addition to the public realm in this area of the city, offering a generous flexible space for community events, raised beds and planting, and south-facing seating for people to pause and socialise.

The building’s intuitive layout is organised around three courtyards each tailored to adjacent public or patient services, with these integrated green spaces softening the clinical environment, reducing stress and supporting mental and physical health.

The first phase of our project at Civic Street has come to life this summer. 🌱

Our design has transformed this once derelict and overgrown area into a functioning and flexible exterior space for our client Agile City Civic House Glasgow

This space will adapt over time to respond to the needs of the people and organisations that will use it, with events this summer already showing how this new space can be activated. 🌞

Keep your eyes peeled for the second phase of works in the near future. 👀

Thanks to our team member Finn for capturing these lovely photos 📸

It’s been fantastic to hear the positive response to Parkhead Hub, a new Health and Social Care Hub in Glasgow’s East End.

Parkhead Hub is the largest Health and Care centre built according to the 2015 Primary Care Reference Design principles, a model that has redefined health and social care service delivery in Scotland. The project exemplifies a holistic approach to healthcare design, combining primary care, mental health and addiction services, homelessness support and community wellbeing in one location.

The building and site layout are focused around four key people-focused outdoor spaces that encourage varied use and activity. The building’s intuitive layout is organised around three courtyards each tailored to adjacent public or patient services, with these integrated green spaces softening the clinical environment.

A new public plaza marks the entrance to the hub and is a valuable addition to the public realm in this area of the city, offering a generous flexible space for community events, raised beds and planting, and south-facing seating for people to pause and socialise.

We are pleased to say that Parkhead Hub has taken home several awards, a credit to everyone involved in each aspect of this brilliant project, as well as the value of investment in high-quality places for healthcare:

🏆 Health Project of the Year, Scottish Design Awards 2026

🏆 Winner, The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland Awards 2026 The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland

🏆 Finalist, Landscape Institute Awards 2025.

🏆 Public Sector Project of The Year, RICS Awards 2025

🏆 Patient’s Choice Award, Building Better Healthcare (BBH) Awards 2025

🏆 Best External Environment/Landscaping Project, BBH Awards 2025

🏆 Best Healthcare Development between £25 million – £75 million, BBH Awards 2025

Congratulations to all involved, including Hoskins Architects Architects, Hun West , and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

We asked erz Director Felicity Steers to share one of her favourite design details from an erz project - Felicity’s pick: Arcadia Nursery’s bug panels.

At Arcadia Nursery we ran drawing workshops with the pre-schoolers to explore what creatures might live in the new gardens.

We used the children’s lively drawings of bugs and plants to create laser cut safety panels at the nursery.

The little cut outs enable children to peek through from one garden space to the next, so that they get a sense of being in a bigger series of spaces, including the wider campus at the University of Edinburgh.

How can architects and landscape architects collaborate more effectively to achieve shared climate and biodiversity goals?

The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland and Landscape Institute Scotland (LI) have announced the upcoming Architect-Landscape Architect Breakfast Seminar due to take place at the RIAS Office, Edinburgh on November 12th.

The theme of this CPD breakfast is ‘Meeting Shared Goals on Climate and Biodiversity’. It will examine the distinct value each discipline brings to a project and how these contributions can be aligned to build stronger, more productive connections during the design process.

Drawing on their experience across a diverse range of projects, Felicity Steers Steers, Director at erz Ltd, and Sophie Logan of Sophie Logan consultancy will share their unique perspectives on what makes interdisciplinary collaboration successful, and the common challenges that can hinder it. Along with Zoe Black and Tim Wilson, they will discuss how the Scottish built environment industry can come together to address some of the most pressing issues we face including improving climate resilience, housing delivery, biodiversity, and nature recovery.

This event is suitable for practices of all sizes, and will include opportunities for networking and audience discussion.

We asked erz Associate Rhiannon Cowell to share one of her favourite design details from an erz project - Rhiannon’s pick: Dalmonach Steps.

‘A detail from the refurbishment of an existing set of steps in Dalmonach - a new red ramp for prams and cycles alongside the steps.

The red picks up a colour already used locally by The West Dunbartonshire Environment Trust, carrying through to the metalwork of the bench halfway up the steps. The simple geometry of the ramp and steps threads neatly between mature trees and wildflower planting to the slopes on either side. Careful detailing, including a shallow resin-bound gravel build-up, helps to minimise the impact on tree roots and allows the new route to sit lightly within its surroundings.

Something so practical can also bring a little colour and character to an everyday journey: a clear piece of human intervention that contrasts with, but works alongside, its natural setting.’
