A great afternoon away from our desks as Kirsten, our Senior Sustainability Lead, and Carys, Architectural Assistant, joined fellow built environment professionals at Material Source's newly refurbished Glasgow studio for a Design Charrette exploring community-focused workplace design.
Working in one of six teams, we were challenged to develop a material moodboard for meeting rooms and collaborative breakout spaces within a financial institution's office. Our concept centred on wellbeing, connection and functionality, using a neutral, nature-inspired palette of Crown Paints' Co Palette colours, ILIV's Planet Mark fabric, Russwood timber flooring, PaperStone recycled surfaces, Autex acoustic solutions and biophilic elements.
One of the highlights of the session was seeing the variety of responses to the brief. From concepts inspired by Glasgow's iconic tenement wallie tiles to inclusive spaces designed around sensory and cognitive accessibility, each team showcased a unique interpretation of how design can support community.
A huge thank you to the Material Source team for hosting such a creative and collaborative event. It was a fantastic opportunity to share ideas, learn from others and explore how thoughtful material choices can help create stronger workplace communities.
We're already looking forward to the next one.
