The dukes are through to the third round of the Scottish cup after a great 3-1 victory over Newburgh Thistle.
The dukes started the game very well and we knew we were in for a good cup battle when a couple of chances were squandered at both ends within the first 15 minutes. However, it was the dukes that struck first when Scott Davidson slipped through Lewis Hawke who then rounded the keeper and then rounded the Newburgh defender who was trying his best to block his shot on the line. [1-0]
Our second goal came from the same duo, and it was Scott Davidson who found Lewis Hawke, who once again dribbled the ball around the onrushing goalkeeper and passed it into the empty Newburgh net. [2-0]
Half time 2-0
A good half-time team talk re-energised the team and had us ready to go out and extend our lead. It took a matter of minutes, Scott McBride won the ball in the centre of the park and found Kieran McKay who drove towards goal and thundered a left-foot shot into the Newburgh keepers' bottom right-hand corner. [3-0]
The dukes were in control of the game and we had plenty of big chances, the main one from Lewis Rorrison who rattled the bar from a 30-yard strike.
It was Newburgh who were throwing everything into it in the final 15 minutes as they pretty much had nothing to lose at this stage. A through ball found their striker who took a good first touch and neatly tucked away their consolation goal.
