FAQ series: Can you insulate the buildings?

👍 Yes, all of our buildings can be insulated.

🪵 Our standard cabins are insulated from 25mm in the roof and floor, wall insulation is possible but you would need to upgrade to external cladding. Insulating the roof and floors even with only 25mm does make a real difference and lots of customers opt for this for summer houses, home businesses such as salons and play rooms.

🏠 Our home offices and annexes are insulated from premium 50mm, 75mm or 100mm thickness in the floor, roof AND walls depending on the building’s usage. Allowing year round use by keeping the building cool during warmer months and warm during the Winter. Perfect for residential spaces and accommodation.

ℹ️ We can build to building regulations and planning permissions where the project requires it.

FAQ series: Do I need planning permission?

Many homeowners don't realise that timber garden buildings do not usually require planning permission.

As long as it complies with the following:
• 📍 Build Location: Your building is placed in your side or rear garden—never forward of the front wall of your house.
• 📐 Height: It stays single-story with a maximum eaves height of 2.5m. If you place it within 2 meters of your property boundary, the entire building must not exceed 2.5m in height. (Away from the boundary, you can go up to 3m for flat roofs or 4m for dual-pitched roofs!).
• 🏡 Garden Space: The building (plus any existing extensions or sheds) do not take up more than 50% of your original garden area.
• 🛌 Building Purpose: It's used for everyday domestic enjoyment—like a home gym, office, or hobby room—and not as separate sleeping accommodation.
⚠️ Just some important information: If your home is a listed building, or if you live in a Conservation Area, National Park, or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), stricter rules may apply and you should alway check with your local authority if you are not sure as the rules do vary.
