🌱 OUT OF OFFICE 🌱

We’re taking a little time away as a family — a chance to switch off, slow down and enjoy some much-needed time together.

As a small family-run business, we genuinely appreciate every single order, subscription and bit of support you give us. It means so much to us and is the reason we get to keep doing what we love.

We’ll be back feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready to get stuck back in — catching up on messages, orders and all things Seed Craft.

A little note for any new subscribers:
Don’t worry, we’ve got things covered! 👩‍🌾📦 My lovely mother-in-law is on hand to help us keep the seeds moving while we’re away, so new October subscription orders can still be shipped as normal. 💚

Thank you, as always, for supporting our little business. We’ll see you very soon! 🌱✨

🌱 Who says the growing season is over?

October is the perfect time to keep sowing, especially if you’ve got a little protection to give your crops. 👌

We’ve just sown mizuna, pak choi, purslane and mustard under this simple cloche, giving them a bit of extra protection from the colder nights while still allowing us to grow fresh leaves well into autumn and winter. 🥬

A few simple tricks can make a big difference to extending your growing season:

🌱 Choose the right crops – hardy Asian greens, mustards and other quick-growing leaves are fantastic for autumn sowing.

🌱 Give them protection – a cloche, fleece, cold frame or unheated greenhouse can add those few crucial degrees and protect plants from frost and harsh weather.

🌱 Keep harvesting – pick outer leaves regularly rather than waiting for the whole plant to mature. Many leafy crops will keep producing new growth.

🌱 Don't over water – cooler temperatures mean slower growth and less evaporation, so let the soil dry slightly between watering.

🌱 Sow little and often – a few seeds every couple of weeks is much better than having everything ready at once. It also gives you a continuous supply of fresh leaves.

And don't forget… winter doesn't mean the veg patch has to stop! 👊

Our Seed Craft subscription boxes are designed to take the guesswork out of year-round growing, with seeds selected for the season so you always have something suitable to sow, whatever the weather. 🌱📦

🌱 A little garden reset! 🌱

Before ➡️ After… and what a difference a good tidy-up makes! 🙌

The old plants have been cleared, the weeds have been evicted and the beds are finally looking ready for their next chapter. A few new seeds are now tucked away under the cloche, giving them a little extra protection as we head into the colder months. 🌱❄️

Just because summer is over doesn't mean the growing stops! There are still plenty of seeds that can be sown through autumn and winter, and our Seed Craft subscription boxes are the perfect way to keep your veg patch producing when the temperatures drop.

Each box is packed with seasonal seeds and growing inspiration, helping you discover something new to sow every month. 🌿

A tidy garden, fresh seeds and plenty more growing to come! 💚

Our October boxes are available to ship straight away so get signed up using code INSTA50 and grab your first month for just £4! That's just £1 per variety in this month's box!

If only stamping hundreds of envelopes was actually this quick…

No fancy machines or expensive equipment here — just us, a stamp, a lot of ink and a questionable amount of patience! 🤣

Being a small business means we do a lot of things the old-fashioned way, by hand, one envelope at a time. It might take a little longer, but every box is packed with a whole lot of love and care. 💚🌱

And yes… this video has been sped up. VERY sped up. 😂

As a thank you for watching this frankly boring video pop code INSTA50 in when purchasing a subscription and you save a few quid 🤑

🌈 Chard: one of the garden’s most colourful workhorses!

If you want a vegetable that brings a serious splash of colour to the garden, chard is hard to beat. Those vibrant red stems and dark, crinkled leaves look almost too good to eat! ❤️💚

But it isn’t just about the looks. Chard is incredibly hardy and keeps producing as the weather starts to cool, making it a brilliant crop for extending the growing season. Once many summer crops are giving up for the year, chard just keeps going. 💪🌱

And don’t throw those colourful stalks away! The stems are every bit as useful as the leaves. Chop them up and sauté with garlic and olive oil, roast them, throw them into stir-fries, soups or pasta, or even pickle them. They have a lovely crunchy texture and a slightly sweet, earthy flavour. 😋

🌱 Chard has also featured in our Seed Craft subscription boxes, because it’s exactly the sort of crop we love — colourful, productive, easy to grow and useful in the kitchen. Our boxes are packed with interesting varieties to keep your growing season full of surprises!

Pick the outer leaves and stalks as you need them and the plant will keep producing fresh growth.

Colourful, productive, versatile and seriously tough — chard really does earn its place in the veg patch!

🍈 The smell of success… literally!

There’s something seriously satisfying about growing your own melons, but this one might have been worth the effort just for the smell alone. 😍

As soon as this beauty started ripening, the sweet melon aroma was incredible — that unmistakable smell that tells you it’s finally ready to pick. And honestly, I could have happily just stood in the greenhouse sniffing it! 😂

Melons can definitely be a bit of hard work in the UK. They need warmth, plenty of water, feeding, training, pollinating and a fair bit of patience… and sometimes you put all that effort in for a disappointing fruit.

But when you get one like this? Absolutely worth it.

That first bite of a homegrown, perfectly ripe melon is something else. 🍈🤤

Anyone else growing melons this year? How are yours doing?

Join us by signing up to our monthly seed subscription boxes and when the time is perfect for sowing melon seeds again we might just pop them in a box.

🌶️ Jalapeño season has officially begun!

There’s something very satisfying about the first proper harvest of the year, and these jalapeños have certainly delivered! 🌶️

We’ve got enough now that it’s time to stop admiring them and start pickling them. 😋

Pickled jalapeños are ridiculously easy to make and are perfect for burgers, nachos, tacos, pizzas… or basically anything that needs a little kick!

🌶️ Quick Pickled Jalapeños

You’ll need:

- 250g fresh jalapeños, sliced
- 250ml white vinegar
- 250ml water
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 garlic cloves, lightly crushed (optional)

Method:

1. Slice the jalapeños into rings. 🌶️
2. Add the vinegar, water, sugar, salt and garlic to a saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer.
3. Add the sliced jalapeños and simmer for 1–2 minutes — just enough to soften them slightly while keeping some crunch.
4. Pack the jalapeños into a clean jar and pour the hot pickling liquid over them.
5. Allow to cool, then pop them in the fridge.

They'll be good to eat after a few hours, but even better after a couple of days once those flavours have had time to develop.

And of course, this is exactly why we love growing our own… one minute you're planting a tiny seed, and before you know it you're making jars of homemade pickled jalapeños! 🌱➡️🌶️🫙

Fancy growing your own? Our monthly seed subscription boxes contain a selection of interesting and unusual varieties to get you growing throughout the year. 🌱
