🌳 ASH DIEBACK — WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT? 🌳

Ash dieback is a serious fungal disease affecting ash trees across the UK. It can cause leaf loss, dead branches and progressive crown dieback, weakening trees over time.

⚠️ SIGNS TO LOOK OUT FOR:
🍃 Brown or black patches on leaves
🍃 Early leaf loss
🌿 Dead branches within the crown
🌳 Lesions on the bark
🌱 Unusual shoots growing from the base

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

As ash trees become weakened, they can become more vulnerable to branch failure and structural problems, particularly where trees are close to roads, buildings, gardens or areas used by the public.

Regular inspections can help identify problems early and determine the safest way to manage affected trees.

🌳 WHAT CAN YOU DO?

✅ Have trees inspected by a qualified tree professional
✅ Monitor affected trees regularly
✅ Remove dangerous or severely affected trees where necessary
✅ Carry out appropriate pruning and management
✅ Get professional advice if you’re concerned about a tree

Protecting trees is important — but keeping people and property safe comes first.

🍄 IT’S FUNGI SEASON! 🌳

As autumn arrives, you may start noticing fungi appearing on trees, stumps and fallen timber.

While fungi are a natural and important part of our woodland ecosystem, fungal growth on living trees can sometimes be a sign of decay or underlying structural issues.

🌳 A HARSH SUMMER CAN TAKE ITS TOLL ON TREES

This summer’s prolonged heat and dry conditions can put already stressed trees under additional pressure.

☀️ Heat & drought stress
🪵 Wood can dry, shrink & crack
🌳 Existing weaknesses can worsen
⚠️ Dead or diseased trees may become hazardous

The split shown here is a reminder that tree defects shouldn’t be ignored.

If you have a dead, diseased, damaged or visibly cracked tree, it’s worth getting it assessed before it becomes a danger to people or property.
