Here at ACR property, we are always up for a challenge and this next one certainly was.
Our client approached us after purchasing a large 8’ x 18’ shed to replace two sheds that had seen better days in their garden. They decided that they wanted to be able to store more than the usual garden tools and patio furniture, and so wanted an insulated space to help manage the extreme temperature fluctuations that you can get in a garden shed.
We quoted to fit 40mm PIR insulation to the walls, 70mm PIR insulation to the roof and then sheath it all in 11mm exterior grade plywood. Our client wanted to be able to hang bikes and the like from the walls, so the sheathing needed to be able to take some weight, with the rest being loaded on the frame of the shed, which needed to be clearly identified.
We first cut each individual insulation panel to size to friction fit between the timber frame, to a snug fit. This minimises heat gains and losses by producing minimal gaps. A vapour control layer was the produced by taping all of the joints with insulation tap, creating an impenetrable layer keeping the moisture away from the plywood. All of the plywood sheets were then custom cut to suit the existing structure, to produce a pleasing finish, with window openings routed out to the existing frame with a flush cut bit. The aesthetics of the job were secondary to the function, but ACR Property strive to add that little bit extra where possible. All of the sheets were fitted using Torx screws along all of the framing struts so that they could be easily identifiable for fixing brackets, shackles and shelves to the walls that require stronger fixing points.
