It’s always nice to receive photos from our clients, sharing updates on past pond builds. 📷

Ponds look great when they’re newly installed, but they look even better once they’ve fully settled into their landscape.

We built this particular pond back in 2023. Since then, the aquatic plants have established, the shrubs have matured and further uplighters have been added for night-time impact. ✨

Harvesting rainwater is great for the environment and is the ideal way to keep your pond topped up and healthy during dry periods.
It doesn't have to be complicated or expensive - you can purchase water butts equipped with hose connector taps to top up your pond and water your garden directly from multiple interconnected water storage containers. You can also buy downpipe filters to ensure that the rainwater you have harvested is optimum quality for your pond.

Today is World Bee Day 🐝 – raising awareness about how crucial bees are in sustaining the health of our ecosystem.

By planting native, bee-friendly plants around your pond or garden water feature, you are providing them with a vital source of food, water and habitat.

We all depend on bees, because the crops we eat rely on insect pollination. Not only this, but bee pollination increases flower growth, which creates habitats for insects, birds, and animals.

Let’s all do our bit to help them 🐝

This week is
Connecting with nature can have a really calming effect on us and being close to water is actually proven to promote positive mental wellbeing.
Taking a moment for yourself today could be the start of forming long-term healthy habits. And there's no better place than at the water's edge.

Keep a lookout for the Emperor Dragonfly (Anax imperator) around your pond over the coming weeks, as they usually appear from May onwards, sometimes earlier in warm weather.
It is the largest in the UK at almost 8cm long and is easy to spot thanks to its bright blue/green body. Their discarded shells (exuvia) are fascinating and are often found on plant stems or rocks close to the waters edge.

Planting up - it's always a satisfying stage of a project.

Now is an ideal time to get new plants into your pond, so they can establish before the summer.
Squire's Garden Centres have a wide selection in stock and we are happy to advise and replant ponds as part of our maintenance package.

Today is world Earth Day “Our power. Our planet”

Our garden wildlife ponds are mini eco-systems, supporting birds, amphibians, insects, and even hedgehogs.

Here are some small things you can do to help make a difference on this important day:
🌿Plant native aquatic plants to oxygenate and filter the water, and to provide shade which will reduce algae growth.
💧Collect and use rainwater to top up your pond to minimise the use of tap water and improve the chemical balance of your pond.
🐸And finally, if you don’t already have one then install a pond, it needn’t be big! Wildlife ponds are often considered more valuable for biodiversity than planting trees, due to their immediate benefits.
