Here's a spot I wouldn't mind spending an autumnal afternoon - Ben Penreath's Dorset Parsonage. Apparently he glued floorboards onto the existing floor and painted them dove grey. The effect feels as if they've been there forever; really clever!

As the nights draw in my mind turns to the cosier nooks of a house and I do have a soft spot for a snug. These quiet corners offer a disproportionate amount of comfort in the colder months. This example, in Charleston conservator Kathy Crisp's Sussex house, is painted in one of my favourite's - Farrow and Ball's Setting Plaster.
