That socket you’ve stopped using because it “makes a funny noise” is worth getting checked.

It’s easy to put little jobs off when everything else at home needs your attention, but there are a few electrical warning signs you shouldn’t ignore:

🔌 Sockets or switches that get unusually hot or have scorch marks.
👃 A burning or hot plastic smell near your electrics.
⚡ Buzzing or crackling from sockets or switches.
💡 Lights that keep flickering.
🏠 Electrics that trip repeatedly, even after you’ve reset them.
🛠️ Cracked sockets, damaged cables or exposed wires.

These signs don’t all have the same cause, but they do need looking into. Please stop using anything that’s hot, damaged, crackling or smells of burning, and don’t keep resetting electrics that repeatedly trip.

It’s amazing what a difference the right lighting can make to a kitchen.

During a remodel, old lights in this kitchen were replaced with modern LED downlights, making the whole room feel brighter, fresher and much more inviting, especially on darker evenings.

Cold bathroom tiles first thing in the morning? No thanks!

With autumn just around the corner, it won’t be long before we’re reaching for the slippers and turning the heating back on.

Underfloor heating gives a lovely, even warmth throughout the room, and there’s nothing quite like stepping onto a warm floor on a chilly morning. It can be a particularly nice addition to kitchens, bathrooms and extensions.

Some electrical problems are easy to live with, until they aren’t.

A light that keeps flickering, a socket that feels warm, a switch that crackles or an electrical circuit that regularly trips can all be signs that something needs checking.

It may turn out to be a simple repair, but electrical problems rarely improve on their own, so it’s always better to get them looked at rather than keep putting them off.

We hope the return to school or college has gone well for all the children and young people in our local community!

Here’s a throwback to when Connor attended a careers evening at Bohunt Farnborough, speaking to Year 11 students about electrical apprenticeships and sharing his own experience.

College or university may not be the right path for everyone, so careers events like this are a great way to showcase the different opportunities available after GCSEs. An apprenticeship offers the chance to gain recognised qualifications, develop practical skills and earn while you learn.
