❤️ Have you ever wondered what the “SA” in SA Energy actually stands for?
It isn't Solar & Airsource Heatpumps
It's Simon & Amber.
And there's quite a story behind it.
Many moons ago, Simon was a self-employed electrician. Then he was asked to help install a solar PV system, and something clicked.
He loved it.
He learnt how to design solar systems, developed his knowledge and eventually built a successful electrical and solar business from the ground up.
At the time, we were living in a rented house with three children, our youngest was only one, and money certainly wasn't growing on trees!
But the business grew. Eventually, a much larger company approached Simon. He began subcontracting for them and was later offered the opportunity to sell his business.
He accepted.
Simon spent the next nine years working within that company and running the solar side of the business.
But over time, he realised that his own approach to quality, system design and how installations should be carried out was moving in a different direction.
Eventually, he had a difficult decision to make.
Stay somewhere he was no longer happy...
Or walk away and start again.
We sat around the table and talked about our future, our children, the bills and all the frightening practical stuff that comes with starting again.
But ultimately, Amber's answer was simple:
“I'd rather have nothing and see you happy than watch you become someone you're not.”
So Simon left.
And SA Energy — Simon & Amber Energy — was born. ❤️
And then... COVID arrived. Talk about timing! 😂
But strangely, COVID became part of the making of SA Energy.
Simon could continue working safely, often alone on building sites, and while much of the world stopped, he kept going.
Meanwhile, Amber was working in palliative care.
It was incredibly rewarding work, but caring for people through the pandemic eventually took its emotional toll.
One evening Simon simply said:
“Come and work with me. Let's build this together.”
And that's really when SA Energy became a family business.
Eventually, working from home became impossible. We couldn't separate family life from work, so we took another leap and found our first proper office at Fareham Innovation Centre.
One office eventually became two.
The team grew. Our knowledge grew. And SA Energy grew.
Today, Amber is even back studying at university to develop her business knowledge for the next chapter.
And Simon? He's still Simon.
Designer. Electrician. Engineer. Problem solver. Teacher. Boss. And occasionally the man disappearing onto site when someone needs an extra pair of hands! 😂
But through all that growth, one thing hasn't changed.
Why we started again.
We wanted to build a company where we could stand behind the work carrying our name.
Where doing the job properly matters.
Where customers can ask questions.
Where difficult properties aren't automatically dismissed.
And where we're prepared to spend the extra time finding the right solution rather than simply the easiest one.
SA Energy isn't just a company name.
It's our family.
It's our story.
And it's something we're incredibly proud to put our name to.
